Colleen,

I can understand leg back pain but arm pain makes no sense.

you have ddd. the disc bulges are really meaningless cause not pressing on

anything. have you seen a neuro surgeon. you might be a candidate for a one

level fusion L4 or L5.

I am shocked that your doctor told you not to have sex. you are lucky that your

problems are basically at one level. even better then a fusion is a disk

replacement.

what is Oregon Health plan plus? Also, it has been proven that long term bed

rest IS NOT in the patients best interest and will cause other problems.if

laying down is the only thing you are able to do your doctor should have

referred you for physio.

Colleen,

Sorry I didn’t explain WHY your arms shouldn’t be involved the reason is due to

the problem being at the lumbar level.

you are correct the terms can cause arm problems if they occur at the level

where the arms are inervated (cervical and thoracic)

Coleen,

I'm glad that you received your MRI results. May I ask what your

doctor's plan of action is at this time?

I would also like to send my sympathy for your birthfather's death.

Take care,

Lori

Hello,

I finally got my MRI done on October 31st, 2008, Halloween.

My Dr. said that the 1.5 cm synovial cyst at L4-5 (L =lumbar ie lower

back) is not cancerous.  1.5 cm is about 1/2 inch I was told.  It is

pressing on the L-5 nerve root causing pain.

Also, my birthfather that I met in 1995 passed away November 10,

2008, only 63.

Coleen -

This is where most of your problem is. Everything else looks similar

to mine except for L4/L5. You have medical records stating there is

nerve impingment which documents your condition. Your symptoms are

matching, except for the arm pain, that may be something else. Your

report states " moderate to severe " . Mine all said " mild to moderate " .

My problems are in my neck, stenosis, spondylosis, dessication

(drying out) etc.

I was recently approved for SSDI, but had been denied Oregon Health

Plan (our state's federally funded medicaid health component) three

times. Don't give up.

Also, I didn't realize but if I had qualified for SSI, I would have gotten OHP

sooner. I had too much money in the bank when I originally applied, and didn't

go back later to reapply for SSI, which I should have done, just kept applying

for OHP and getting denied.

Deb-

I had very similar symptoms to Coleen. My problem was C4/C5. I had

to lay in bed (and still do too much).

I agree that has to change. However, my referral for physical therapy BEFORE I

had my discectomy was disastrous, only exacerbated the pain.

AFTER my discectomy however, physical therapy was what got me out of bed up and

moving again.
