Great page including the personal terms of pain yeah I concur with all  of those

I have Fibromyalgia.I have all 18 trigger points. There are certain spots on your

body when pushed they hurt like heck. That is one of the tests. It involves

muscles, joints, & nerve endings. It also causes nerves to die. I was diagnosed

back in 2001. It took almost 4 years to find out what I had & went to many docs

who thought it was all in my head.I was one of the worst cases that the Doctor &

SSD had ever seen. That's not something you want to hear.

Blessed be,

All,

I just wanted to add that Fibromylagia is usually caused by a trigger (accident,

stressful event etc) It is as if your nerves get stuck in a position of " WE

HURT " even when there is nothing wrong. I remember the year mine occured. I had

a positive Epstein-Barr virus test for infection and lost over forty pounds and

then got mono trying to get over it. (EBV infectionious mono same)

I had strep and did not take my antiobiotics the whole fourteen days. My

friends would come up and say, " When do we come to your funeral, we are so

worried about you " . I had three jobs then and never rested but thought I was

young and could never get sick.

Research has shown that :

Dr. Sudderth discusses in length the function of not only Serotonin, but also

the mystery Substance P. This substance is found only in the spinal column.

Doctors believe it is an excess of Substance P enhancing our pain levels.

Substance P has been shown to exist in higher levels in people with

Fibromyalgia.

The theory is that when found in higher levels Substance P as a neurotransmitter

increases how we perceive pain. The higher the level of Substance P the more

efficient our system is at pain transmission. It is that transmission which

makes little pains feel horrible to people with Fibromyalgia.

Nerve cells communicate with one another through neurotransmitters. Substance P

is one such neurotransmitter. It is a protein found in the brain and spinal

cord, and is associated with some inflammatory processes in the joints. Its

function is to cause pain. Substance P has been implicated in pain syndromes

such as:

• low back pain

• fibromyalgia

• arthritis

Wikipedia has a good explanation and the National Fibromylagia Association sends

out e-newsletters that I found helpful if anyone wanted to sign up.
