It sure seems like it would be better than waiting hours till the pump goes through. and every thing goes into the same tube and to the same place anyway ron patterson Hi Ronpat I was an RN, and had several patients with J-tubes. You probably already know that the J stands for jejunostomy. The tube is inserted into the jejunum section of your small intestine. The primary reason you need to use the pump for your feedings, is because your body will not have time to absorb it. You are likely to get diarrhea if your put a large amount into the J-tube at one time. Your body will simply not have time to absorb the nutrients. It takes many hours for the entire process of digestion to occur. It would cause a great deal of harm if your body not only doesn't absorb the nutrients, but the results of diarrhea causes dehydration, and the loss of vitamin K production. Here is a link the might be useful to you: http://tinyurl.com/8h96ow Do you have to have 24 hour feedings, or just at night? I can see that you would feel trapped to the pump. That must be very frustrating. Here is a link to a tiny feeding pump, that might be useful. I have never used one, nor sell them. Anyway, it looks interesting. http://tinyurl.com/9mt63r Kaylene Moderator
Guest guest
Ronpat, If you want to bolus feed it must be done via a G tube (gastrostomy) tube. You can not bolus feed via a J tube because there is no room in the jejunum to take a large bolus and as Kaylene said it will cause " dumping " which feels like the worst flu of your life.
