Guest guest
Connie To explain some abbreviations: SSA is the Social Security Administration SSI is a program for the indigent, you do not have to have any medical diagnosis,( you can get ssi and ssdi if your income is little) it is purely a program for the needy, this is what some people used to refer to as welfare. SSDI stands for Social Security Disability Indemnity which is disability " insurance " that US workers pay into when they pay their taxes. So, it is a program that you earn by earning credits. By going to www.ssa.gov and then go to the disability planner. It is a short form that will tell you if you will qualify and your benefit, before you do anything else. While you are on the SSA.gov website you may want to order a social security statement, to verify that your income has been reported correctly for each year you have worked, if not, you can start getting this corrected now. Deb RN Connie, You can go down to the office and all this can be done with the representative and they explain what programs you are eligible for as each state has different programs also, so Deb and I cannot tell you if you are eligible for those but the the representative at the office can. That is how I got the lady I spoke of her disability benefits it was thru the state benifits so please go to the office as the SSi is a federal program. SSi is Supplementall Security Income which is not indigent only. If you have low (certain ) income, blind, disabled or over 65. So being disabled and earining a certain amount could qualify you for " welfare " . The lady told me if I did not have my husbands income, I would qualify, so I would have been indigent. Just take the time to go down to the SS office and you will understand what I am saying when they go thru the program and ask you personal questions and will tell you what you are eligible for and set you up with appointments.
