Guest guest
Yesterday I had to drive the 3 hour round trip to see my neurosurgeon to review the MRI I had last month because of the botched botox injection provided by a physical medicine doctor. And, something happened yesterday, that I never would have dreamed in a million years. The doctor said he " understood my pain. " I bit my tongue. I was thinking, I know what 'that' means. My neurosurgeon started to explain how the day before he had to do an 8-hour brain surgery. He had to wear a 50lb lead vest during the 8-hour surgery. Then, yesterday when I saw him he said he had severe neck pain and strain from the heaviness of the lead vest. He said, " See, I do understand, " and said he was lucky that his pain was just a muscle strain and that it would be gone in just a day or two, because he could not imagine living with such a pain for all of his life. I didn't know what to say to that. He continued with, " Today, I understand! I couldn't say that yesterday, but today I know your pain, and I " m sorry that you have to deal with this. " Now, I know why I drive 3 hours round trip to see this doctor. His humility yesterday was priceless. With that said, I think I should get my not-so-humble-nor-empathetic pain doctor his very own 50-pound lead vest for his birthday. So, he can 'get a load' of the pain, too! Ha ha.
