Guest guest
Mellisa, Every time I have a closed MRI I think I can do it but as soon as they get me into that tube I have a little claustrophobic meltdown. They take me out and then I re-group, put a towel over my face so I can't open my eyes and see that I'm in a small space and do visualizations of being on the beach somewhere or something like that. It works for me. Also, I have to take a nerve pill, like Xanax or valium to help with the anxiety and help relax me because sometimes those MRI's can take up to an hour especially if they use contrast dyes. And you have to be very still the whole time. Not that you have much room to move, but it does help. I'm not sure this would be an option for you if you have to drive afterward. I wrote this in an earlier post but I had an open MRI the first round, which is not nearly as claustrophobic as you can see the room and your not as closed in. BUT the picture quality isn't as good as the closed one. I didn't know this when I had mine so my stenosis wasn't diagnosed that whole time (a couple of years) nor where my three disk herniation! This confirmed all the pain I was complaining about for years and not getting believed that is was that bad, so for me it was a very positive thing. Although its scary sometimes to see the extent of the damage. .. Have you had a nerve conduction study yet? If not, that might be next on the list. Caitlin Can you give me any ideas or comments on how yours came about and what they did to help you?? thank you any ideas and thoughts will help and are appreciated.
