Guest guest
My doctor in his infinite wisdom has decided that all my recent problems with meds are because of anxiety attacks. Since I've never had one can somebody describe theirs and tell me what the duration is and whether it caused any actual physical problems? I have had heart arrhythmia, severe headaches and elevated Blood pressures and what is going on with me goes for weeks at a time. There is no way it is what he says but I need some ammunition to talk to him with. I also have very screwy labs when this is going on and I just don't see how that's caused by anxiety. Guest guest
Hi Carolyn: I can't speak for anyone but myself but I'll relate an experience with a panic attack to you. I live in a large city. I was on my way home from a particularly stressful day in afternoon rush hour traffic on a main city street. I was in the middle lane and for whatever reason, traffic just wasn't moving. I wanted to jump out of my car and run to a quiet park ( I didn't but I sure wanted to ). I am blessed to have a psychiatrist who doesn't question my questions. He will prescribe what he feels is best in the way of medicines when I tell him of my feelings. Since that traffic incident I went from 0.5mg to 1.0mg of Xanax daily. I usually only take it just before I turn in for the night but all the things ( traffic especially ) and crowded places don't bother me nearly as much as they used to. I attribute this to the Xanax because little else has changed. I should mention that ( I didn't know it when the traffic incident occured ) I was diagnosed with secondary ploycythemia - basically a big word for your body makes too much blood and it's too thick to allow it to properly circulate through your organs, including the all important one for affecting you general wellfare, your brain. My last two test in the past 6 months have indicated that my condition has disappeared as quickly as it appeared, my blood ( white as well as red ) cells are fine now. Whether this had anything to do with my panic attacks, I don't know, I only mention it because it was part of my panic attack equation. I wish you the best of luck in finding what helps you.
