Guest guest
Need to vent a little--i am out of pain meds and can't get more till my next appt. in 7 days. My first doctor put me on Tramadol and referred me to a so called specialist, who in turn REDUCED my dosage. Anyone who knows how tramadol works will know that when you take it for an extended period of time you build up a tolerance and therefor need to take more for it to be effective. Well at the time that my current doctor reduced my dosage i had already been on it for 7 months and was up to taking the max recommended dose. At times, it was helping with the pain but seemingly less and less along the way. I told that to my current doctor at my latest check-up and she still told me to take the lesser dose, and STILL had no explanation for my pain, which did not surprise me because the only " examination " they did during that visit was a blood test to make sure the medication is not effecting me in a bad way. Any way-I continued to take the medication as I was previous to seeing the " specialist " because it provided the best relief, therefore I ran myself 7 days short in 2 months time. It was a very irritating 2 months, but now I am feeling horrible due to both my pain problem and now coming down from a medication that I have taken for a long time and now suddenly out. The doctor refuses to refill before the 31st, which is fine because that is the day I go to see a pain specialist, he is supposedly the best in the area so I scheduled an appointment. I can't wait, I need answers as to why I feel this way, and a better way to handle it-hopefully without a bunch of pills. Thanks for letting me vent, sorry about the long letter. Guest guest
I have come to realize that pain meds works on the natural chemistry in your brain; however too much is not good. true about Tramadol. I used to take it also and thats how it seems to work... I also believe a combination of all of what we are talking about in this group helps as a matter of getting the correct balance with diet and little to moderate exercise... > > Anyone who knows how tramadol works will know that when you > take it for an extended period of time you build up a > tolerance and therefor need to take more for it to be > effective. Hi It sounds like you haven't built up a tolerance for tramadol, it has been the wrong medication for your pain. Ask your doctor if she has any better ideas. Have you tried anything else? All, Call the pain specialist and I would do a pain dairy or explanation fro the pain doctor and ask to see if you can be put on the waiting list or seen earlier as you are having some problems with drug interactions.
