For me, it couldn't exactly be described as painful, but I get a " I just can't sit in this chair another second " fidgety, tingly, sort of irritating feeling. And yes, there is often pain in the back of the hip. That, for me anyway, is tight muscles. A chiropractor suggested once that two tennis balls in a sock could be used as a tool to help with the sore muscles, especially when sitting a lot. Stick the sock between the back of the chair and your hips and lean on it. Amazing how much it helps. I keep mine in my backpack so I always have it when I travel.
