working me onto Gabapentin.

Thanks for everyone's insight,

Kendra,

Oxycodone (Percocet) helps me more and Norco does not work for me either. Hope

this helps.

I also take Percocet and it stops my pain more than anything else I've tried.

Best of luck finding something to help. The right medications can make your

life so much more pleasant and for moments you can almost feel normal. Becky

I also take Percocet(oxycodone) and it is the best I have found yet. Ask your

doc if you can try that. I also still take my tramadol to get me through the

break-through pain. Best of luck!

Hi Becky

Have you tried taking plain oxycodone and then taking ibuprofen or

another over the counter pain medication with it? The reason I ask, is

because research is showing more and more that acetaminophen is not

nearly as safe as the makers of Tylenol led us to believe.

With my doctor's blessing, I take single drug pain medications and then

use over the counter medication to get the right level of pain control.

I alternate the over the counter medications I use, so as to give both

my stomach and my liver a bit of a rest. Some things are hard on our

stomachs, some things are hard on our livers. Too bad they can't seem

to come up with something that isn't hard on either of them. :-)

My pain management doctor has me on Oxycontin sustained release. I take these

every twelve hours to manage the majority of my pain. I also have oxycodone

30mg immediate release that I can take every 3-4 hours for breakthrough pain.

This combination seems to work for me.

My doctor believes that the best way to manage pain is a long acting medication

(such as oxycontin or fentanyl patch) with a shorter acting medication as

needed. This combination is less likely to develop addiction and keeps the

medication at a constant level without all the ups and downs as the medication

is wearing off.

He also says that Tylenol is unsafe and pain relievers such as percocet,

vicodin, norco, tylox, etc should be avoided to prevent liver damage.

This regimen seems to be working for me (finally, only been doing it six weeks

but feels better than I have in years) and I hope it helps someone else.
