Guest guest
After the botox injection-gone-wrong, I was walking around at work wearing a sling to hold my arm up. The botox was to help a muscle in my shoulder to " relax " and to keep this story short " it didn't work the way it was supposed to " and caused me lots of problems. Well, pre-botox, and post-botox there was a pain in my neck/shoulder area near C-6/C-7, and it usually ranges about a 12 on the 1-10 scale. On meds, it ranges between 1-4 on the scale. I went to visit a Chinese coworker, just to say, " Hello. " She says, " Oh tell me about your pain. " I said I wasn't there to talk about my pain, just stopping by to say, " Hello. " She says, " You wait, " and she gets on the phone talking in Chinese. I have no idea what she is doing or saying. I am just there waiting. She hung up the phone and says she made an appointment for me at 4:15PM that day (last Thursday) in Chinatown for Acupuncture, and she was going to go with me. I didn't know what to say. I think she was trying to be helpful. I had never tried acupuncture before. So, I agreed to meet her at 4:15PM. I drove to Chinatown, and she was the passenger in my car. We got there, and the place was a tiny (and I mean tiny) hole in the wall kind of place in a Chinese strip mall in Chinatown. It is only the doctor there. He has no staff. He makes no appointments. He helps people 'as they come.' When you arrive, you take a number and you are called in the order you arrived. I asked around and googled the doctor and it seems that people line up before he opens just to get a number. He has some kind of miracle track record that 1) he will be honest if he can help you or not, 2) if he can help you, it will happen within 3 sessions. Period. All reviews for him were good, and so I was somewhat pleased. When he called me into the office, it was no frills. He asked very specific questions, then said to go with him. He asked me to lie face down on the treatment table. Out came needles and he put them into the back of my neck, and downward along my spine. There were a few off placed ones, like near my shoulder and then in my hand, but primarily on my neck and down my spine half way. One needle went directly into my pain point. I mean 100% on the mark. No doctor has ever really been able to point to it. But here this doc was able to get the tiny thin little needle right exactly into the pain point. I asked, " What is that you just stuck? " He said, " That is you nerve. " I thought that wasn't so bad. Even the stick into my pain point. But then, he put on these electrical cords and turned on this machine. Kinda felt like a tens unit, but had much, much more power. Picture a fish out of water, flailing around. Basically, that's how my neck and back felt. I kept thinking, " This can't be good! " My thoughts about this " Electro-Acupuncture " was that it was violent and harsh, painful in its own way. After the treatment, I was just glad to have the needles removed. The doctor did this awesome, but way too quick, massage. He seemed to know just where to press and how hard. Then whack whack he smacked my upper back and said, " All done. " Cost was only $40, so I thought that was a bargain, considering what I hear others pay for acupuncture. This doctor said, " You will need only one treatment. You do not need to come back. This is a simple case. " Huh? Simple? So, I got this on Thursday. Doctor said, no shower for me until Friday. That made me mad, because I always shower in the evening before bed. He said, no eating warm foods, and not to do any, any, anything with that arm or hand. OK. Next day, I feel stomach cramps. I am very uncomfortable. My neck felt like a donkey had kicked it. But, 2 days later, wow. That normal 12 pain was way down. Maybe down to a 3. Today, that pain is down to maybe 1-2, and this is without the meds. Pretty amazing, this Electro-Acupuncture!!! I feel that it was succesful and worked for the shoulder. I am curious to know if, since the doctor said it was so simple, if that means the treatment is permanent. I could live with this level of pain without meds. This is a true accomplishment if this is the case. I still have the hip and foot pain, and I was considering to have the Electro-Acupuncture done on my hip and foot, too. But, I'm not sure. If anyone lives in Calif or is interested in knowing this doctor's name, please connect with me off-list. I am not recommending this doctor, I am only saying that I seem to have had very good results and I am pleased. Jade
