Guest guest
I have read posts here recently about some of your wretched experiences with hospital emergency room visits, all with disbelief - not that I doubt your stories, but that these things actually happened. Even before all the recent increase in insurance " red tape " which often causes problems with getting things done ahead of time, if someone was at risk of losing a limb, an organ failing or just " not right " physically, most medical staff didn't care about the paperwork, they only wanted to save the patient - how the times have changed. Now apparently if you're in so much pain you make any comments that can be mis-interpreted as wanting to die rather than continue on in such pain, they cart you off to the asylum. Of those of you who have posted your horrendous experiences, I'd really like to know what part of the world you live in so I know never to get sick or injured there. Over the past decade, I've had to go to the ER on several occasions for one reason or another and the only complaint I really have is the delay in being seen or treated. I realize there are only so many staff members at any given facility and that rightfully so, those in danger of losing their life should be attended to first, but in those instances where my visit was partly due to intense pain or discomfort, I was medicated fairly quickly without hesitation, interrogation or snide remarks being made - at least within my earshot. I recently read an article in a local newspaper describing the quality of medical care in southern Nevada as being sub-par. I have not found this to be so except in one instance where I had an orthopedic surgeon " forced " on me by the insurance carrier. He has the bedside manner of a storm-trooper. Even though I had to have the bursectomy on my left elbow worked on twice - I believe because he fouled it up the first time, the attending staff was pleasant, understanding, and honored all of my requests unless specifically not able to because of orders or contrary to procedures which would have been detrimental to me, all minor things. I was born and raised in a somewhat " backward " smaller community in the 1950's and had several really bad experiences with dentists in particular but also some doctor's. I didn't know there was any better until I relocated to a larger city and found truly competent practitioners existed. I have no magic answers. I only wanted to share the experiences I've had with most of the medical facilities, doctors and nurses I've been treated at and by in southern Nevada where despite it's reputation as being " sin city " and not having the best practitioners, I've never been considered crazy or treated as such. I know some peoples roots run deep, and relocating is often difficult if not impossible but there are ( at least to date ) places where they don't treat you like a looney or criminal when you're sick.
