I buy those express salads now. I stay clear of the stores salad bars....way expensive to me. I have also been buying the prepackaged veggies also, the organically grown ones. Do you dice up your lettuce any more after you open the sack? I prefer romaine, red and green leaf oh and butter lettuce. Do any of these bother your system at all? It is really tasty. It is those smaller lookin heads of lettuce you see in the produce area. The leaf is softer than iceberg and much taster. Guest guest
Hey Tara, Also try freezing the grapes first! Tastes great! My kids love them that way.
Guest guest
Rae, I have yet to eat any roughage that has upset my tummy! Thank goodness - cuz I love it! I am an iceberg lettuce gal - I am ashamed to admit! I know it has absolutely no nutritional value, so I try and mix it with the romaine and other " greener " varieties. I have never heard of " butter " lettuce - what is that??? I have started buying the prepackaged veggies sometimes - but they can be rather pricey too. I know if I buy them unprepared, they will sit and rot in my fridge - an even bigger waste of money! I love the baby carrots that are individually packed as single servings - but for me it is cheaper to buy my salad extras from the bar! - Tara Lynn --- GRL1DR@... wrote: > From: GRL1DR@... > > In a message dated 09/06/1999 1:51:45 PM Central > Daylight Time, > taradim@... writes: > > << Well, I take a small salad container from the > fresh > bar and skip the lettuce, I fill it up with all of > the > extras I like- like broccoli, cucumbers, olives, > beets, sunflower seeds, etc. - I end up with about > 1 > lb and at only $2.49 >> > > I think this is a good idea Tara Lynn. Guest guest
Tara: The job's yours if you want it! Besided, I'm no food expert unless you count all my years of eating it! (and well, I might add!) LOL! Stevie > > > > > Hey guys! I'm not trying to take over Stevie's job of > resident food expert - but I just found a new trick > and I thought I would pass it along! Guest guest
Actually Tara: Someone recently just gave me a good idea on how to " use " supermarket dsalad bars to our advantage (which I did for Labor day). If you go to the Deli and ask for Seafood Salad, it's often about $6.99 a lb! Same for fruit and a host of others...Ask the deli person for a plastic lidded container and take it to the salad bar, and fill up with any of the deli salads for $1.99/lb! (The deli lady actually told me it's the exact same stuff! The deli people fill the salad bar!) I made " homemade " fruit salad this past weekend-canteloupe, watermelon and strawberries for $2! I was a happy chick! Stevie
