Guest guest
First off I'm so sorry with the amount of pain you've been in. And having migraines on top of the other pain is just to much for one to handle. I have migraine issues as well and truthfully, I'd rather have a Broken leg for a month then a month of migraines. They are severely debilitating and at least for me, meds like imitrex just make them worse. I personally don't think you're taking to much medications by any means. In fact it's a small fraction compared to many others. I am worried about the dosage of amytriptiline they have you on though, but I'm by no means a doctor. I do know a lot about it though and have taken it. I'm paranoid with high doses, especially over 100mg. Shortly after being put on that dose I thought my chronic fatigue had significantly worsened but it turns out I was actually losing consciousness many times a day, which is a possible side effect from amytriptiline and a risk of from high dosages. Your saying that the vicodin is controlling your pain, right? That's great, it did nothing for me so I have to take percocet. Have your doctors tried propanolol for a migraine preventive treatment yet? It's taken daily to prevent u from even getting them in the first place and works wonders on some. - Wish you luck and hope I helped a little --- a H wrote:. > > I am taking amytriptiline 25 mg 4 times a day and 50 mg once at night, Tylenol one tab 5 times a day along with 1 Advil. Guest guest
Thank you for your response 29, I have had some periods of time when I feel like time has flown by and its somehow been lost. I don't know if it is due to the Amitriptyline or not but that is the drug I take for so many different purposes that I haven't been able to modify or decrease the dosage. I take it as a migraine preventive, for vulvodynia which I didn't include in the list of conditions i have, and for depression also. The dosage I take is a dosage that is OK for depression, although I know that for pain alone the dosage is much less. I have been told also that the mixture of drugs I take intensifies the overall result and although taking each of these drugs alone in the dosages I do isnt so high, taking the combination I take can be dangerous. I cant take the propanolol. It wasn't permissible because I also have asthma and it can have a bad effect on the asthma. I must take asthma meds too sometimes, which can conflict with the pain meds. I have taken Verapamil though I just can't do that more than 2-3 times a week since my Blood pressure goes too far down and the dizziness is not tolerable either. When I have a bout with Bronchitis the asthma meds are usually increased and I do need to lower the Amitriptyline because the 2 together give me heart palpitations. I still am wondering about this sudden increase in pain which feels like back labor and feels like burning is something others here have experienced or if anyone has any ideas what has caused it? a
Guest guest
a, First of all, you need to get off the Tylenol. Tylenol has been proven to cause liver damage and even the FDA wants the company that makes Tylenol to put a " black box warning " on their package because recently it was discovered that it is worse for us than what we thought. So Vicodin has Tylenol on it, plus all the other Tylenol that you are taking, not good! You are obviously under treated and that happens to a lot of people in chronic pain. It took me 6 tries but I finally found the right pain management Doctor that put me on a very good treatment, and now my pain is more under control than before. I know that you say that the PM Doc's that you have been to have disappointed you, but you can give up, you need to find a pain management Doctor that is going to treat your pain. Check out doctorsforpain.com, you might be able to find a good pain management doctor in your area. BTW, that pain on your back radiating to your legs, sound like lower lumbar issues, you better get an MRI of your lumbar region and see if that is what's causing your problems. Good luck, -a wrote: > > I need feedback and advice about whether I am taking too much medication and what might be the source of the newest pain I have. > > I am taking amytriptiline 25 mg 4 times a day and 50 mg once at night, Tylenol one tab 5 times a day along with 1 Advil. Guest guest
(((((a)))))) Ouch! I am sorry to hear that you are suffering so. The medications you list approach your pain in different ways. Sounds like you need one of your doctors to review your meds. In some individuals a combination of medications in needed.Unfortunately since everyone reacts differently to medications it comes down to trial and error to find what works the best. I also suffer from migraines. I know how bad that can get! I take 4 different medications for pain plus another pill for migraines. Many of the medications to treat pain will make you tired. I suggest that you talk to your neurologist about your medications. I hope this helps some.
