Yesterday we (a friend since junior high school) were chatting and she told me she had just seen her doctor about getting another epidural and he ended up cautioning against it because they discovered some heart damage that has been caused by taking methadone, which had been prescribed by a different doctor some time ago. This new doctor told her to stop taking it immediately and gave her something else instead. > > From what I've learned this is not an uncommon thing with prolonged methadone use. The bad part is that her prescribing doctor knew this could happen and never told her. Now she has heart damage that is irreversible. Hi PJ I just can't find cardiac problems listed anywhere in the literature caused by Methadone. Was your friend assessed for any heart condition prior to taking it? One thing may not have anything to do with another. If you do have any professional information please send a link to the group. Thank you very much Kaylene

Was your friend assessed for any heart condition prior to taking it? Hi Kaylene Recently, a handful of cardiac deaths have happened to be people who were taking methadone. From what I have read, these folks were taking methadone as a treatment for long term heroine addiction. The latest upshot is that they were already damaged from all the years of heroine (and poor life choices) abuse. So far, it looks like it was a tempest in a teapot. Guest guest
I looked as well and never saw those risk factors, but maybe it is newly discovered and not yet in the lit?
