Guest guest
The only thing I can think to suggest is not to be tempted to make too many changes too quickly.... makes it really hard to pinpoint what's causing what. I feel for you..... I know it's really frustrating! Patti Sunflower oil - cause of seizures??????? Hello Well I spoke too soon. is having a bad time again and I am wondering whether it is the sunflower oil. I would appreciate any information about this possibility. It is now a week since I started her on it. Since then she has been so good cognitively and socially, but she is having different seizures - and they are getting worse. Last night she had another long absence at about 7pm. Today she had another seizure at 5.45am - she woke up for the toilet and felt funny so got back in bed, there she had a generalised seizure. I heard her making the strange noises and she was in bed, but when she got up later she told me that she had had a seizure because she had felt funny and gone back to bed. This morning she has two more unusual seizures one at 11.30 and one at 12. They were both the same. She called out 'Mum', (so she must have known she was going into a sz) then held her head and her head went down in the chair (she was sitting on the couch). Her ketones and blood sugar are her normal levels so I wonder if it could be either withdrawal from the supermarket canola, or a reaction to the organic sunflower causing this? What do I do????????? Guest guest
Hi Jill, My daughter Mallorie had been on Flax oil for about a month and was doing great on it. She quit having clusters of myoclonics (she began only having single shakes). We also saw cognitive improvements. Then we introduced a balanced oil that had sunflower and flax. She had one dose of the oil in the am then one late afternoon. By around 5 that evening she had her first tonic seizure ever. This continued to the next day (I gave her another small dose of the oil that am). So I stopped the sunflower/flax balanced oil and she quit having the tonic seizures. I tried the oil again and the same thing happened. Then a couple of weeks after that she started having tonics again while only on the flax oil. So we stopped that. A week later I tried a small amount of flax and she had a big tonic seizure. Then a few weeks later she began having tonic clonics. At the time it seemed like the oils were causing the big seizures but since they started again later after the oils were stopped we are not so sure. The reason I thought the oils were causing them is because they started the same day we introduced sunflower oil. If introducing the sunflower oil is the only change you have made lately it could very well be the reason. It is frustrating to see some very good things happen when using some of the healthy oils and then to see some bad seizures. I hope that you can get things settled down with . (Mallorie's mom 3 1/2 due to start the diet on Thursday)
