Guest guest
Hi Ann, Welcome to the board. As a woman who had a weight problem for over 20 years I can relate to your situation. Just recently I went through the lung transplant evaluation and as part of that, I needed to lose some weight. They want you in the best possible shape outside of your lungs. So, I said to myself that I need to make a commitment to me and just do it. I had been fighting and fighting it for a long time. So I joined Weight Watchers and started a Pilates class in addition to my walking for an hour each day. Thankfully, I am still able to be this active with my oxygen. Weight Watchers was very helpful. I was able to lose 50lbs. It took me about a year to do so it's not a quick fix. So far, knock on wood, I've been able to keep it off and have lost a tiny bit more. Personally, I would love to lose another 15-20 lbs. But...we shall see. I think with losing weight you have to find a program that works. For some it's WW, others it may be Craig or carbohydrate diet or ?? You also have to go into it that it's over the long haul. It's kind of like the stock market where you can't watch your stocks every day because it would make you crazy going up and down and up and down. It's over a period of time. I only weighed myself once a week. I wish you the very best of luck. I know it's not easy, but it can be done. Are you able to exercise at all? I think that makes a big difference too. Even if you can do a little bit - it will help not only physically but mentally too. Keep us posted. I know that my physical activity has limitations due to the IBF, but if I could get some ideas on a good mixture of a sensible food plan and moderate exercise, I should see some of the weight come off. My pulmonist and I are trying to decrease my daily dosage (down to 15 mg now, trying for 10) as soon as the warmer weather starts and neither I nor others around me are sick, but that isn't going to make a lot of difference from my perspective. Would love to hear from anybody who has struggled with this as well and had success lower the numbers on the scales. Have struggled with my weight since a young child and hate losing the battle at this time ... there has to be a better way. Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile.
