Guest guest
Cyndee: My last posts about the criticism of the MGB were not meant to scare anyone. I just wanted to see what Dr. R would say in respinse to a naysayer like that person who comes across as someone who knows it all and often might scare away the people who might read her post. Plus, I know for a fact that a number of folks that are MGBers are also on the OSSG lists and may not have asked Dr R when they read flames about him and the procedure. Normally I do send flame things or personal concerns to Dr. R personally, however, if there is a potential problem or issue, everyone needs to know about it. It's good for us to question everything. Besides, someone in the group may have suggestions that even Dr. R might not offer. Maybe someone else saw the same post and has an answer or a question. And further, one email specifically mentioned patients from the MGB list, so I thought we all needed to know someone was using " us " as sources. Not everyone will love Dr R..especially those who have been just as conditioned as much as we are to love Dr R, there are those on the OSSG lists that have been told to love the open procedure and even lap bands (not lap!- and we know about the success rate with those). There are Fobi fans and now thanks to the Carnie surgery, fans of Whittemore at Alvarado as well. And Cyndee...you being the lawyer and all....don't you want full disclosure on everything? Now, here comes my oh-so-subtle analogy: If you're going to buy a car from a dealership, do you expect the salesman to tell you why other dealerships might be better or what's bad about his dealership? If I am about to buy a certain car that everyone I know bought and just loves, I can go ahead based on their recommendations, or I can do a little more research and see what consumer agencies say about the car. If one person swears the car I want is really a re-done pinto, then I want to know. Is this car going to blow up on me in the next impact? What safeguards or changes has this car maker done to improve upon the original? Dr. R truly believes in his method and many of us agree with him. Others believe in their methods and have their followers. Is one better than the other? Perhaps. But it's the one we choose for ourselves that is most important. I for one, along with most of us on this list, have done the research and have made the choice to have his procedure as it exists today. I want to know everything I'm up against prior to major surgery. Others will too, I'm sure. That's why we have this list: to ask questions, to tell about problems, to offer support to each other. I'm curious: when people write about those who had surgery and had major complications, does that not scare you even more? I know it certainly makes me sit up straight, but at the same time, I want to know what I could be getting myself into. I don't lose any more faith in Dr. R, in fact, I might gain some for his ability to make things right. I think he does a pretty great job of letting us know what to expect and what hazards are out there. Hope you're doing well, but don't let these things upset you..just let them inform you or shrug them off as you choose (espcially as a post-op) ...Plus, no matter what they say, no one is better than our car, I mean our Doc. .
