We had a townhouse in Illinois before we moved it was 2 bd.rm 1 1/2 bath and about 1250 sq. ft. It sold for $146,000. Then we moved to Florida where you can get unbeleivabely inexpensive housing, we bought a 3bd 2 ba 2400sq ft. house with a pool on a double lot for $102,000. With the move back we bought a 3bd. 2 ba 1650 sq. ft. house with an unfinished basement for $173,900. IT'S SICKENING!!!! How did starter houses get to be so expensive!!!!My parents bought a house very similar to ours in the early 80's for $71,000 AHHHHHHHHH!!!! Thank god we are closing on the florida house next week or we would've drowned in debt this holiday with 2 mortgage payments. Guest guest
Tuna, Where's that house located????? Here an 1100 sq ft ranch with 3 bedrooms, 2 bath, full basement, 2 1/2 car attached garage, fenced yard and across the street from a lake would go for $165,000. Guest guest
Jacquie, Did he ever call them to follow up on his application? If not, he might want to try it. If the posistion hasn't been filled, it might get them to pull his application and see what he knows. Sue
Guest guest
Top of the hill, 3 blocks from main street. It's the 'nice' side of town where all the oil company employees live. A townhouse. It is 1200sq feet with basement, on a crescent in a village of 2000, across the street from the community centre parking lot. Unfinished basement, SMALL-car attached garage, deck in back and 10x10ft of fenced backyard. 3 bedrooms, 3 baths (uber-excessive, IMHO), 8x7 dining room, 12x8 living room with a kitchen too small for a table but too large to look good without one. The nearest place to buy underwear is 25 mintues away. The only windows on the main floor are two small and one patio door all on the south wall. Guest guest
Yep, we get a lake. Our lot is around 250'deep by 54'wide. The houses across the street are lakefront. With the boys, this is close enough for me! I wouldn't mind being in a farm area, although with my allergies, I'd be home bound during harvesting time! Sue Re: OT - > you get a lake? Guest guest
Yeah, I read it later and realized I'd forgot to mention where I live. I'm in Cold Lake, Alberta and I'm blaming this oops on cold weather and lack of sleep. Tuna ... blushing furiously Re: OT - Tuna, Where's that house located????? Guest guest
> Where the heck are you???? What are the services like??? > Sue I'm in Ohio. Prices vary GREATLY in just a few miles. I'm 32 miles from the nearest city and prices there are alot higher. The county I live in is only one of 2 in the entire state that doesn't have a hospital. Services.... well that depends. is mentally handicapped with autistic tendencies. She'll be 11 in a few more weeks but she's working at about a 5 year old level. I'm VERY pleased with her services and teacher. is 7 and has behavior issues. Because he's in our home school district and they have NO clue what they're doing, I'm VERY unhappy with his services (though the teachers are trying very hard.) I won't tell any of you what we paid for our house in 1988. I don't want to make anyone too jealous. ;o) Tina

Guest guest
Well, I could never afford to live across the street on the lake front. When we moved in here, there was a house that was going for $549,000 ! Now people buy the older lakefront homes, tear them down and build these HUGE new ones! I don't know how anyone can afford to buy a house and tear it down just for the property! Sue Re: OT - > > > > you get a lake?
