Guest guest
, I only take prednisone when I have a lot of inflammation now. My rheummy wants me to take 5mg everyday, but I hate dealing with the side effects. When I stopped it totally my moon face was gone within a month or so, but I can't remember exactly how long it took. I developed a cataract at the age of 55. I have not had it removed yet. That is on my list of to-dos for next year. The weight did not fall off. I was walking a couple of miles about 3 days a week then. My rheummy stopped me from walking because of the impact and pain in my ankles. I have not watched my diet and have gained a lot back. I wish you luck with stopping the prednisone. Any one else develop cataracts from prednisone? I was on Prednisone for Crohn's when I was in my 30s and had cataract surgery a couple of years ago. I'm really glad I had it. He did one eye for close-up and one for distance and it's like I had Lasic surgery, but my insurance paid for it. I've had glasses since I was 10 and now only use them for driving in a strange place at night or reading something really dim -- like the newspaper. dd **************Get the Moviefone Toolbar. Guest guest
Hi : I had the prednisone cataracts removed from both eyes last year. It was very quick and an easy recovery. I had them done a week apart. My distance vision no longer requires glasses, and I just buy inexpensive reading glassses. So wonderful not to wear glasses all the time. I have been off Pred. in the past, but not for long. I am on 10mg. a day, but am trying to return to my normal dose of 5mg. a day. I hate the moon face and extra weight, but Pred. makes me feel so good, and works well with my other RA meds. I am pain free right now. Wishing you pain free days ahead. You will be happy when you have your eyes done. It was the easiest thing I have ever had done. Good luck with it. Guest guest
Good luck getting off the prednisone, . Most of the side effects should go away after you are off. Over the years here, there have been many reports of cataracts due to prednisone. Guest guest
Hello , I was one prednisone I think for about 1 1/2 years. I was able to come off of it, but I had to do it slowly and it took a long time. I went through withdrawal once when I came down and that was pretty scary. As for side effects, I didn't really have any unless I was on a dose higher than 15mg. I gained maybe 4-5 pounds that wouldn't budge while I was one it, but that's nothing compared to what other people go through. I do believe that the side effects do go away once the prednisone is stopped. Another drug I was on for stomach motility, Reglan, was causing me to skip periods for months, but as soon as I stopped that things returned to normal. Guest guest
dd and group; DD I took prednisone only about a month. I went off it gradually. I started out on 10 milligrams for 15 days and went to 5 mg (half a pill of 10 mg) for the next 14 days. Oh wow how wonderful I felt. I did dishes, cooked, did laundry. I was in hog heaven. But it was all over when I went off of them. I am glad now cause cataracts are a serious disease. I had no problem with any side effects on prednisone. If my face became moon shape that would of been fine with me since it already is moon-shape lol. gentle hugs Clora ********************************************************* From: dgd301@... <dgd301@...> Subject: Re: [ ] Prednisone / Cushing's Date: Monday, November 17, 2008, 9:51 AM In a message dated 11/17/2008 1:42:39 A.M. Guest guest
, I was on 20 mg of prednisone daily for about six months. I have to say that at first it did help with joint pain especially in my hands feet ankles and hips. However the side effects just really got to me., The moon face, the constant running eyes, the weight gain, Gosh I went to bed skinny and woke up fat, couldn't even get my jeans on to go to work any more. Depression set in. Plus with my osteoporosis {thinning bones} prednisone was wreaking havoc on them. Don't take me wrong, prednisone is a wonderful drug and tool for some. Just not for all of us. I needed to go off and we are now trying to find something to take its place. Hope this helps some. I am sure has more answers for you, or ask your Rheumy.
