Guest guest
It depends on how much you work. The amount used to be that you could not earn more than $940 a month (BEFORE taxes) and still be considered. They use a term called substantial gainful activity. Somehow the government thinks you can support yourself on $940 a month...and they give you even less once on SSDI. However, from the individuals I have known they had to appeal more times than not if they were working, even under the guidelines they set. I want to, but I know they will say if you can still work, you are not disabled. If these people only knew that if I had my choice between working and being healthy or collecting disability and feeling miserable, I would want to be healthy! I have been getting wicked flares lately and I just feel awful, but who is going to pay my bills, right?!Any input would be appreciated. Right now I am only working part time. Guest guest
There are programs that allow you to work part time and receive social security benefits, there is also a work incentive program that allows you to work while receiving SSI or SSDI. I don't mean to sound harsh but the fact is they don't care about how you are going to pay your bills. They don't care about how you can cover your medical requirements or pay for the meds. All they care about is your physical ability to earn an income. Therefore, I wouldn't consider filing for disability while working. But that's just my opinion based on my experience here in my state (Washington). Once you begin the process you want to grit your teeth and fight for your entitlement. Stan Seattle, Sun!
