Just a thought; my partner quit years ago (smoking, not prednisolone!) using

acupuncture - he's certainly not smoked in all the time I've known him. I think

he had a tiny needle in his ear that was covered by a plaster.

I chew a lot of sugar-free gum and eat a lot of ice. I guess that's

what I do instead of smoking. It's a lot cheaper, too. Plus I have a

lot more time now that I don't spend so much of it smoking.

and Clora,

I will be cheering you on as you attempt to quit smoking. Just believe

that it is possible for you, and you'll succeed. Tell yourself that you

are stronger than nicotine, and you're not going to let it rule over

you.

Visualize yourself free of this nasty habit. Think what you're going to

do with all of that extra money.

Good luck to both of you! You can do it!

Thank You. I have quit several times. sometimes more than a year...

I will be ayt a party or some social event  and " find " a cigarette in my mouth.

It is like my subconscious  sneaks  up on me...Rather bizarre. I pray I stay off

this time.

Group,

I have finally suceeded in quitting smoking after 2 failed attempts

previously. i have been smoke free for what must be 3 years now ( i

didn't actually write the date down, which is a bummer). I quit using

patches. the reason I was able to this time is because I was

absolutely NOT going to smoke anymore. It just wasn't an option to

keep smoking, I hated it. Iquit for 2 main reasons, 1. for my neice &

2. chronic bronchitis.

If you have the mind set you can do anything...except give up

chocolate :)

One thing with the patches though. I wouldn't recommend wearing

them to bed (which it says on the packet anyway, they are right lol).

Whilst my dream was pleasant it was a little unnerving. I had the

most beautiful dream, full of colour & really pretty fish. I still

have a pretty good memory of it, it was so vivid. Which is the scary

part lol.

Dennis and group;

Thanks someone put a list up for that.  Did you see the commercials people

learning how to drive and drink coffee when they quit smoking.

It is so funny.. At first I was like WHAT are they doing.  My husband said

learning how to get into the car with out a cigarette.  I laughed my head off.

Wow....27 years. It was much harder then because you were constanly exposed.

When motivated I can avoid most second hand smoke that is alluring to me.

Thanks for the support.

Sue and group;

Awe Sue that is so nice of you.  Thanks so much for the encouragement.  Imagine

it is our little group that has convinced me to take that big step.

putting up all the things cigarettes hurts or affects.  When I read that I

was appalled how disgusting these things are that I breathe in every day.  I

will spend tomorrow Investigating the necessary options I have to help me quit.

The date is almost here to stop.

I got a file on quiting I got to go over and I am on my way.   I have some

prescribed fake cigarettes to practice on.  It actually has a copy nicotine to

help fight off temptation.  I have the will.  Mom said where there is a will

there is a way. I want to be a QUITTER!   God bless and take care.

Clora....

Do what works for you.

My problem is staying quit.

I have quitting down to science.

This is what works for me.

COLD TURKEY....

Everything else feeds the addiction.

Niccotine is out of system in 48 hours.  I buy sucking candies, take

tranquilizers, sleepimg pills....anything to manage 48 hours.

By that time my legs feel better. I have less pain and can feel as if I

accomplished something.

After that it is psychological. Which for me is the hardest.

when I have spent a fortune on quitting products  ie: nicorette and others,  it

just delays the inevitable and causes more psychological trauma in the long run.

It actually takes more emotional control.

I wish you well in choosing what is best for you.

Many, many blessings. Call in the angels...

Most definitely! I smoked heavily (2 packs a day!) for a few years

and when I truly decided to quit, I found the best way to do it was

to substitute one addiction for another. In my case, I went for

coffee and it is still a crutch, 15 years later. I took to twirling

a pen with my hand to take care of the need to have something there

and still twirl it when I'm stressed. When I had the strong need for

a cig, I'd go to the bar, buy a pack there (they are far more

expensive there), swig a cup of coffee quickly and give away every

cigarette to whoever wanted it. I lost a lot of money that way but

that helped cement the need to quit. I am at a point where I should

try to change my addiction once again, as I should cut down on the

coffee with the RA and all. But that may never happen. Coffee is my

lifeblood and you can only pry the pot from my cold, dead hands! :)

May I suggest you mix half caffeine and half decaf as stepping stone to cutting

back???

However smoking or coffee?. I sure think coffee wins....Congratulations

Congratulations to you, too, Brad! We have quite a group of quitters

here. Coffee is not nearly as bad for you as the cigarettes were, and

not as expensive, either. And there is decaf, which I drink. I usually

have one cup of instant Sanka in the morning, and then a cup of instant

cappuccino or something similar. In the afternoon, I've taken to

drinking a cup of hot tea, since I hear that it's so good for you. I

also drink diet root beer. I do drink a little plain water, and of

course I get water when I eat ice.

Hi - It was me who posted this website for help with

quitting: http://community.becomeanex.org I have a page there under my

own name (Doreen). I'm so happy to hear you are trying to quit. Please

keep something in mind, though. It takes 72+ hours to get all the

nicotine out of your system - the rest is just a bad habit to break.

If you had quit for 9 days, you were past Hell Week and into Heck

Week. The nicodemon was playing games with your mind when you cheated

with that one cigarette yesterday. Now you started your clock all over

again - 72+ more hours to rid your body of that nicotine AGAIN.

Come visit me at my page:

http://community.becomeanex.org/profile/Doreen I'll do all I can to

help you quit...........Doreen :)

Good for you, Debbie! I wish I had never started smoking. Once you're

addicted, you think that you'll die without those cigarettes. Thank

goodness I finally quit.
