Obesity regulates bone metabolism not only by increasing weight

loading but by modulating cytokines or hormones which are known to

affect bone remodeling. As a result, it has been generally believed

that obesity leads to an increase in bone mass. However, recent

observations revealed that excessive fat mass may not protect against

osteoporotic fractures.
