Infusion and Red Face

The last time I had my Remicade Infusion, I woke up the next day with a

really red face and one cheek looked like a welt. I also could feel a fine

rash on my legs. So I called the office and reported it. He told me to take

Benedryl or something else which might not make me sleepy. (Of course, I've

forgotten the name of the alternate).

So yesterday they did a pre-treatment with a steroid and gave me a Benedryl

before the infusion. I slept through most of the infusion.

Today I woke up with the red face again and my neck looks like I was

wearing a v neck and got a sunburn. I had my husband take a picture of it. It's

more like cea. I will call the office again and report it -- I figure

there's no hurry since the next infusion isn't for 8 weeks.

But I was wondering if anyone else has cea and has a flare from a

biologic?

Hi,

I had that & more (!) when I had my first infusion of Rituxan. Not only did my

face get red, I had welts all along my neck - which was also red as well but my

throat felt like it had golf balls in it!! 2nd infusion, they had me take 20mg

prednisone for 2 days prior to as well as the day of PLUS zyrtec (rx strength)

Then, on the day OF, they put benadryl in the IV and I had absolutely NO

problems. Maybe they didn't give you enough of PRE-IV stuff??? Good thing you

took pix to show the doc. Did it go away shortly thereafter? That will be

something else to inform your doc.

It really sounds like they just might not have given you enough drugs beforehand

- just let your doc know.  Hang in there & good luck!

It's ridiculous to me that these " professional " health care providers seems to

brush off these very serious side effects that we have to deal with as if it

means nothing. One would think they could be a little more considerate or

curious about what's going on because these treatments are not a matter of " take

a shot " and you'll feel better. It's very frustrating that the very people who

treat us sometimes don't have a clue what we're going through.

Hi dd,

I am very sorry your having problems with your remicade treatment. You

might contact remicade, and let them know the symptoms your having.

I am on humira, and I do have rosacea, and I have no problems. I do get

very red in the sun, in only minutes though.

Keep us posted, and I hope you get to the bottom of it, Tawny

Hi this is my first note to the group but I am a regular reader and

appreciate all I learn. I have been on Remicade for 2 years. After the

first six months on Remicade my liver function tests started to rise and I

gradually developed a more and more uncomfortable skin rash. Biopsies seem

to indicate that there may be a medication sensitivity. MTX was stopped,

and with a decrease in dosage on the Remicade the liver function tests stay

in the high normal range but the skin rash (originally called hives now

eczema) continues to wax and wane all the time, I can't figure out any

connection in time to the infusion, e.g., whether it is better or worse

throughout the two months. I also get a real itchy scalp at times. For the

scalp and if I get any lesions I use a steroid cream/lotion. Otherwise

regular body lotion seems to relieve the itch for a while. I have not

heard of others who have this kind of long-term skin condition related to

Remicade but wondered if anyone here has experienced something similar? I

was on Enbrel for about six years without problems but turned 65 years old

and for insurance reasons had to go on the Remicade. Jeanette H.
