Guest guest
My insurance company would only agree to cover the cost of Enbrel after I had exhausted all other treatments available. I'm still using MTX but hating it as only 5 mg makes me deathly ill. I'm doing better though after 3 months on it, I'm only sick about 36 hours vs. 4 days when I started. The next drug to try, Arava, is too expensive, over $200/mo. Then I found out that my insurance will only cover $20 on the Enbrel scrip which is $985/mo!! It's a no win situation. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
Guest guest
, Do you get the insulin syringes because the ones that are provided don;t work well for you? Just curious because I start my injections next week.

But check with Aetna about special plans for injectibles - you might be covered 100% if you order from their Prioriety Healthcare company. Guest guest
Hi , I'm going to be 55 this summer and still work about 50 hours a week. I thought I would have to go on disability several months ago, but since I've been on Humira I'm much better and am able to put in the hours my job needs. Hope Enbrel works its magic on you as it has for many others. Kathy F. I'm curious, how many out there are over 50 and still work full time with PA? I just don't see how I can keep doing this and as much as I hate the thought, starting to apply for disability might be the way I'll have to go. Well, I " ve rambled long enough, thanks for reading in PA with PA
Guest guest
Dear , I can totally relate to you wondering how people can still work and have active PA. I’ve had this full force for almost 5 years and finally gave up going into work about 3 and half years ago. Luckily, my husband and I owned our own business so if I was late or don’t make it in one day, he can’t exactly fire me….lol. But I still had to deal with the guilt of not showing up and not doing my part of a busy office. We also have worked together so well, that I felt like it was one more spot I was letting him down with my illness. I tell myself that I was there when I was needed and try and look at it that way. It would have been really bad for me to have gotten sick when we first opened and couldn’t have afforded to replace me. I feel so bad for people who have to decide on insurance or working. It’s horrible to think you have to give up your medication because you are too ill to work. I have used the injectable drugs twice now and there is a big difference between the companies that provide the drugs. Does your insurance give you a choice of companies to choose from? When I ordered Enbrel I was going nuts with the company taking so long and messing everything up from my address to my name. Then I ordered Humira and it was at my home the next day. So some companies are just great and others really do drop the ball. I hope Enbrel helps you. I was allergic to it, but then I have a lot of allergies so you can’t go by me. It really seems to be a wonder drug for so many people and I hope it answers your problems. Anyway, on your question of being over 50 and not working…. I’ll be 50 in June, my PA is still out of control, and I’m not on disability yet. I’m just taking a leave of absence from work and doing consulting work. So far I’ve stayed away from disability, but I know it’s on the horizon. Take care and good luck with the Enbrel. Sincerely, Fran in Florida
Guest guest
-- I'm so sorry you are hiving so much trouble with the Enbrel shipments. I had trouble with Shopko pharmacy at first but they have improved their service tremendously and I get my Enbrel on time now. In answer to your question....I am 54, I work full time as a court clerk which is a very busy, stressful and on-my-feet a lot on court days kind of job. There are days when I wonder how much longer I can keep it up but I really don't want to quit. My insurance is terrific and without it my husband and I would soon begin to experience a real belt tightening period unless I give up treatment of this disease. I am going to apply for disability when I get to a point where I cannot continue. I try really hard to hide my symptoms and I never talk about it at work unless someone asks. When I can't hide it anymore I'll know that I have become ineffective and I'll quit and try to get disability. I never thought of it as a possiblity in my life but 2 1/2 years with PA is making a believer out of me. I hope you get relief from Enbrel and whatever else you take with it and that you can continue to carry on for a good long time, at least until you are ready to rest. Best Wishes, Cheri :-))
Guest guest
I feel bad for you . we have all been there . If there is nopain relief from the enbrel then you should talk to your doctor about getting remicade or something else. I have found that takineg evening primrose oilwith gla[gamma linoleic acid ] does help me with pain. I take1 in the morning and 1 at supper . sometimes i take 2 in the morning . . it may take a few weeks to 2 months to notice a difference but i wouldnt be without it. I have also found that also helps lower cholesterol and helps with all my menopausal stuff. There was a lady who was a member of this group several years a go and she told us that over in Ireland where she lived that all the doctors from the hospitals and clinics prescribed this to there arthritis patients . its worth a try . It helps me a lot .. i am also on enbrel and mobic . i have been on just about everything including mtx. try the epo . I get the evening primrose oil at my local vitamin shope . Makesure it has the gla . I just get the store brand. if you have any " indigestion " from this just take a pepcid . good luck . cathy from ma. I have been on low to no carbs for the last two weeks and feel like it helping somewhat. I am trying to stay off foods with preservatives. Whenever I have too mcuh salt my legs seems to be very painful. I had too much salt and some wine saturday night and my legs started swelling becoming painful. For me,k I think a certain diet may help me more then the PA meds. Janet
Guest guest
Last night I called Accredo Pharmacy to schedule my next shipment of Enbrel. I asked the actual cost of Enbrel that the insurance company has to pay for a 90-day supply. He told me it cost $5,252.60. Wow! I knew it was expensive, just not sure how expensive. This cost was for the 25mg twice weekly that I get; I don't know if the price varies for the once weekly or not. I also don't know if that's in addition to the $150 that I have to pay. So on July 1, I'll have to start paying $300 for a 90-day supply; I had been paying $150 for a 100-day supply. It does look as though they could bring the price down after all these years. I do have a little stock in the company, though. LOL. Sue
Guest guest
You should really check out their website. They have a co-pay program. You have to get the card from your rheumy office, but it is simple, get the card call enbrel et wa-la. Free for 6 months then I think its $10 after that. It had been $50 but they lowered it. The co-pay card is only for patients with insurance and does have limits but has helped my budget tremendously. Good Luck Diane
Guest guest
I will probably be starting Enbrel next month and I am very concerned about all that it involves. At least this gives me a clue about my co-pay. At that price I should buy a share, it's bound to go up! Stan Seattle, Sun! Last night I called Accredo Pharmacy to schedule my next shipment of Enbrel. Guest guest
I'm sure that my income is too much to qualify, but thanks anyway, Sue. I guess I can afford it; I'd just prefer to use that money for something else. Guest guest
I got a letter from the Healthwell Foundation yesterday approving me for a year's amount of co-pays for Enbrel or another med (?). Guest guest
Enbrel has been covering half the cost of my copays for a year and when that expired, they called me up and signed me up for an additional year at no cost to me. No income requirements at all, but there is a form the doctor needs to fill out and fax in. ~Marie
Guest guest
I went to the website, but I understood that this was for people just starting to use Enbrel. I've already been using it for over five years. Sue On Apr 24, 2009, at 8:28 AM, Diane wrote: > You should really check out their website. They have a co-pay > program. Guest guest
Great news Dennis!! I hope one of the biologic meds work for you. I was on humira for awhile, they have a patient assistance program. I did qualify for healthwell, but the plan d (medicare), kicked in, and I didn't have to use it. I only pay $6 for humira. Good luck my friend, Tawny > > I got a letter from the Healthwell Foundation yesterday approving me for a > year's amount of co-pays for Enbrel or another med (?).
