Hello Joyce

Apologies for 'butting in' on this Q for :

Best time for taking mini aspirin?

And please excuse me ,for adding my comment here, but I have been

interested in this field and wanted to reassure. (retired doc, non rheum)

It is an interesting question.

On the whole a 'stable state' is the aim from the very low levels of aspirin,

and omega fish oils. It is untrue ,( but neatly simple) to call these blood

'thinners',like the powerful anticoagulants, heparin, Warfarin etc which work

quite differently, and even they don't actually 'thin' the blood, just reduce

its ability to clot.

What the aspirin and Omega fish oils do is tend to reduce 'mini inflammation'

effects of oxidants, etc, circulating in the blood vessels triggering damage to

the lining or endothelium of arteries, (platelet clumping, fatty deposits).

So more a question of keeping the vessels healthy and the blood (platelets)

less 'sticky'. The omega oils are probably dealing especially with the lipid

profile and its effect on the above. (Statins would play their part in this

area, when medically prescribed)

As for the timing it is quite OK to take them together, but other evidence

suggests it is ideal to take the aspirin in the evening,as you suggested for max

cardiovascular effects, and blood pressure lowering at night, when the body is

least active and ciculation may be more sluggish.

Another study showed it was important to take aspirin regularly, or not at all

because of rebound effects on platelet stickiness, etc when discontinued!

Perhaps GIna might paste some links, I am no good at that, sorry.

Best wishes

UK

I was at the doctor's tuesday and on the tv they had a health channel where they

said that O-mega three fish oil has blood thinning properties.  Now I take only

one a day in the morning but I also take a baby aspirin.  Should I take the baby

aspirin at night or am I safe taking both in the morning?  I figured it was a

valid question since I'm sure there are others on the list who take fish oil and

baby aspirin.
