Sorry....sent by mistake...anyway, Jen, know that we are all here together

and I just pray deeply that we all get healed and have a chance to enjoy our

existence while we are here. And I pray especially for our younger friends

online, like you....I truly hope you get better and have a good life.

I will keep you in my prayers.

Hugs,

Donna

Jen, I was just diagnosed with lymes disease in April. I was undiagnosed for

10+ years. It has been quite a battle. I can only imagine how difficult it

must be for someone as young as you. It has only been my personal faith in

the Lord Jesus Christ that has kept me going and not giving up. Without the

Lord I would not be able to guarantee where I would be now. Keep you chin up

- you have found a whole new family of friends. Gail

Where are you in FL?

I see a neurosurgeon in ville and he also doesn't prescribe pain meds.

Last time I saw him, I was 3 months post-op from a L4/5 fusion and he said " you

shouldn't need pain meds anymore " . Felt like slapping him. When did he fit into

MY body and feel MY pain? Jerk!! I have to get all my meds from my medical

doctor, who is more than happy to make life easier for me. Especially since now

my neck is all crappy and painful.

Sometimes it just sux to get out of bed and face the day.

I agree with you, the guy is a jerk. We have to remember that Dr's are people

too, and there are just as many stupid and careless people out there as there

are in the rest of the population.

If you can, keep seeking help somewhere else. There are good Dr's out there,

and if you feel pain it's a legitimate reason to be taking some form of pain

med's.

Don't give up!

Im down in Largo(between Clearwater and St.Pete).....exactly the same thing

Neuro said take Ibuprofen....LMAO! Might as well suck on a Sweetart then. I

really don't understand why they don't want to make us comfortable. I certainly

don't want to have to take drugs all my life......I just want to get back to

feeling good and being able to do things again! But until that day comes....keep

me comfortable.

Thanx Meg.....believe me I won't give up until I get a good surgeon,proper

treatment and pain meds if I feel they are neccessary.Im the one walking in

these shoes with pain, not them. I would like for them to just spend 5 minutes in

my place without pain meds....they'd surely think differently then.

Another pet peeve of mine is when people ask how I am or something, then they

say something like, " Oh I've had a backache too. " Ugh! They don't KNOW what

real pain is.

One of my friends had a slight muscle strain in her back and her pain lasted 3

days. She said " I know just how you feel " while she was hurting, then promptly

forgot about me when her pain went away.. Oh no she didn't know how I feel...her

pain meds worked great and she didn't have to deal with it 24/7 for almost 2

years. She just got a small taste of it.

Yeah, I was a bit concerned that I might become addicted to Vicodin, but my

husband said what the heck--- if I need it, I need it. Bad pain is a good

reason to take whatever you can get, and if your quality of life sucks, why not

risk a little addiction and deal with it later when maybe your physical problems

might be in better control than they are now.

They're just ignorant. I wa too, I had no idea my body was capable of all that

pain. I thought childbirth was the worst pain ever, then I had a pinched nerve.

I won't underestimate another's pain anymore.

I just have to share, as one day in ER, there I am with my tens unit on and

multi advils on board, and another RN says, I almost called in sick today, I

have a crimp in my neck, slept on it wrong, I'm in soooooooo much pain. I just

rolled my eyes. Yeah...ha!.....thats real pain...I'll trade :) She didn't

complain anymore that day. I know it is hard for someone without to realize

what the pain is like ...but I don't have much sympathy these days for those

that have a sore back from raking or a crimped neck that will go away in a day

or so. :(

Hi Meg,

Your response took me by suprise....and I hope I can help clarify some thoughts

for you.

There are many reason for not continuing to prescribe medications that have

controlled substances in them. One is addiction like you mentioned. And No,

dealing with addiction later is much harsher than coming to terms with pain and

learning measures to control them without substances. Some people will never be

without pain--I am one of them. But using heavy meds to help is not always

right--sometimes it is definately needed, but for the most part it should

avoided if at all possible. Secondly, when you are in pain it tells the doc

that there are still issues that need attention. I want to share an example.

When we get someone in with severe pain in the ER, we never medicate first

....otherwise the pain is gone, and how will we determine what the factor is then

that is causing the pain? You want to cure first..not " muffle " the pain. You do

not ever " want " to become dependant on a drug to make your life whole or better

at present and " deal with the addiction later " . You are opening yourself to a

world of heartache if you have that outlook. I know that in this group we are

probably all on some sort of meds, but if at all possible the ones that do not

lead to addiction are the ones to use if possible, along with other regimens of

treatment, PT, surgery, or other means. I know this is not the answer you want

to hear...but please don't look at it like...todays fix and deal with later, you

could end up with tomorrows heartache and depression as a bonus, after you are

still left with the pain and now an addiction. Twice fold situations. Hugs.

Wean if you can, and talk to your doc about new pains....

Hi gang,

I am feeling a little better tonight, so just wanted to get on board.

I've been fighting pain the last few days. The pain was in my shoulder,

and I tried everything. I took naproxen,(which I've quit taking, it

upsets my tummy), and what do you know the pain was gone when I got up

this morning. I kind of felt it coming back on, so I took another one

today, and its so better.

Yesterday, I celebrated my b-day in my recliner:( I had plans, but you

know how it goes. It was a fun day with the girls, my two daughters,

and my beautiful granddaughter.

Thanks so much Sue:) I feel the pain coming on again, since I've been

on the PC. I have neck problems, and so not sure if that is a part of

it. I see my rheumy Monday.

Have a great weekend, Tawny

Yep, another b-day in the RA family. It was a lovely day, and it took

my mind off the pain for just a little while. Speaking of pain, its

back again, just being on the PC for a short time. You know how that

goes.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, and family, Tawny

, everytime I see your ideas, I find myself wishing I could eat at your

house! (I know, I just need to be more adventurous in the kitchen.)

By the way, if you're the author of the " ice cream " recipe -- I've been enjoying

it the last couple of days at breakfast. Thank you so much for sharing it.

I know you prepare your own vanilla flavoring, if you're the I'm thinking

of (maybe that's Sara?). Are there other permitted flavors you've developed as

well?

but it truly brought out my resilience and strength.

marinara with spaghetti squash, steak with zucchini stir fry, spicy citrus

guacamole, salsa, etc.

oral thrush, excessive sweating and body odor, pale/unhealthy complexion and

many others that I cant think of right now, but those are my main improvements.

Hope this helps and feel free to ask any other questions.
