Guest guest
Judy, which one gives you the better medical options? I would start there. in PA [ ] Retirement dilemma I am at the point of condsidering early retirement. I plan to make the first calls today to see if I would be better off to go that route, or pursue disability. I am 58, and have paid into a state retirement system rather than SS for 20 years. My thoughts are that I should be able to take better care of myself physically if I weren't pushing myself so hard to go to work everyday. It is getting to be more of a struggle each day. I am at home today due to an outbreak of Shingles. I understand that my auto-immune problem (RA) might have contributed. I've already missed more days this year than normal for me. The retirement thing just sounds so final. I think we would be okay financially, but it is scarey. Does anyone out there have any words of wisdom, pro, or con? Thanks for any help! Guest guest
Judy, I am with you. If you can make it, I would. The mental struggle of pushing myself to just get out the door and then start over again once I get there is getting harder and harder. I am looking at the same thing in a few months. I know without a doubt that I will be applying for disability retirement in March or April. My rheummy said that they will fill out the disability papers for me. I am also only allowed three absentee incidences a year (this includes tardies and partial days) without disciplinary actions. I end up using my vacation days for illness and medical appts. I have a physical job and my only alternative would be to take an inside job. I would have to drive 50 miles each way, and it would be a big cut in pay and my monthly pension. I simply can not afford the extra cost of monthly parking, gas, and a paycut. I hope you make the right decision for you. I pray your shingles are better today.
