Generally, I'm doing very well. Surgery was 3/26 @ 371lbs. I am now at 265

lbs and losing steadily. BP remains consistently in the 116/74 range. No

hair loss yet, even though I am in the dreaded 4th month.

My only complaint is that for the last month or so a fairly high percentage

of my attempts to eat meals has produced a mild belly ache. I don't get

heartburn or nausea, although I produce enough gas to belch a little. It

never lasts more than 30-45 minutes and responds readily to maalox, zantac

etc. The pain is a sort of dull ache. Your suggestions on dealing with this

problem would be appreciated.

The only foods that have fought back everytime I've tried them are vinegar

and, to a lessser extent, lemon juice, presumably because of the high acid

content.

My apnea has abated substantially.

My depression eventually started to return, and I have gone back on

medication for that, although the medication is different (Effexor) and the

dosage very small. I was disappointed but not surprized that the depression

did not completely disappear post operatively because my history strongly

suggests an organic component.

One major problem is that I have gone althe way through my closet and no

longer have anything to wear. I was both ecstatic and sad when I had to give

up my custom made fat man clothes from Hart Shaftner and Marx. By the way,

my waist was size 62 in April and is now 49 " . My neck size has gone from 22

inches to 17 1/2 " .

I see you have a prospective patient from Michigan who wants to talk to other

MI patients. Please feel free to give her my name and phone number/email

address.

Once again, thanks for everything.

Dave Vinocur

All in all I am extremely happy with the results of my surgery.

Hey Dr. R. I'm doing great. Since surgery I've lost 80 pounds and have

started going to the gym 2-3 times a week. My energy level is good and I

can eat a little of almost everything. I still stay away from sodas, sugar

and red meat. I have no desire for them at all. Even the heat which would

have been murder last year is quite tolerable to me this year. My husband

loves it. I usually freeze him out of the house, but this year I'm the

first one to go turn up the thermostat. All in all I'm doing great thanks

to you.

Your results are remarkable. Thanks for taking so much time to talk to me

prop. I am now 8 days postop, down almost 20 pounds and handling all

liquids and yogurt just fine. No real problems at all with the surgery, but

like I have been fighting a raging case of gout. Thankfully, today

seems to be the end of that attack and after this mornings Colchicine and

Celebrex, I am going to drop the meds and see if it flairs up again. I'm

looking forward to working backwards through my closet. I figure I have

clothes to keep me looking good through 50 pounds, and after that I will

really enjoy shopping for some new suits!

Hello gang.. glad to see that everyone is doing so well in here.. Haven't

been around for while, work was getting too hectic! Just wanted to make a

comment that I eat basically all veggies and fruits and have little gas. I

find that I am eating maybe 4-6 ounces of meat a week and that is when I have

problems. Cannot comment on dairy products since I don't eat them. Take

tums on regular basis to get my calcium.. lol, imagine all the post-ops

in a room after a meal ... whew! Well, just wanted to say hello to everyone

and let you know you are in my thoughts. Have a great weekend, will keep in

touch.

I asked about Gas-X but Dr R said I needed to change my diet to fruits,

veggies, less dairy ...

But the gas is horrible no matter what I eat ...

Cheryl,

Thanks for the welcoming message. I hope that ya'll don't mind but I am not

having the mini gastric bypass but a regular one. I have talked thru email

to Dr. Rutledge, as on another group I mentioned that I was going to have the

surgery and he sent me best regards. In writing him and asking him questions

he gave me his website so that I could talk to some of his patients about the

surgery. Here in Tx the only places that were known to do the bypass was in

Houston and Dallas so when I found out there were finally doctors in San

(only an hour away), I made an appointment. Dr. Pilcher is the

name of my surgeon. It is really exciting reading about the ones that are on

the other side (after surgery). It gives me great hope.

Pat,

I could not get the surgery approved with PCA/Humana, after working 3 years

on trying to get them to approve it, even with many of my doctors

recommendations. As I said in a previous post, I am on Medicare/Medicaid

now, since I quit the insurance I had. Because I am diabetic it will be paid

for 100 percent for me through Medicare/Medicaid. Best of luck in getting

yours approved.

Peggy,

I live in Tyler, Texas and have been trying to get approved for surgery

since January. Must change carriers. What insurance do you have that

approved you for this surgery? We are shopping around right now.

Best wishes and much success.

Good Morning!

Well it looks like on October 6th I will start my new life. As of 4:55 on

Thursday September 23rd, my insurance Cigna approved me for surgery. I

pressured the insurance people everyday I wasn't taking no for an answer. I

Fed Ex'd my information to them on 9-21 and called them everyday over and

over, once I found someone who would actually listen to be I started calling

her directly. Within two days I had an approval, I will take all of my

remaining information to Dr. R on Saturday and my surgery is the following

Wednesday. To say I'm excited is an understatement, I'm actually going to

get a second chance at life... I just wish I could hear everyone on the list

say the same thing.

Any advice would be appreciated,

Becky- congratulations! My only advice is to give up caffeine and

cigarettes NOW! If you are not a slave of these two things that's

wonderful...but if you are, wean yourself immediately. I didn't give up

caffeine until my surgery and I had the headache of all time in the

hospital. Morphine wouldn't even touch it. For the entire time I was in

the hospital I had no pain from the surgery, but the headache was enough to

drive me insane. Good luck!

Hi Tina

Welcome to the group. You really need to chart your temps for 3

cycles to see your pattern. Low temps don't always mean a problem. A

great book to buy is Take Charge of your Fertility. It explains all

about charting. Its a great book. I highly recommend it.

Tina,

No that's not the case, you don't necessarily alternate sides for

ovualting every other month. It can happen a couple times in a row

on right side, and then once on the left and then back to the right

the next month (just an example). There is no set pattern (that's

just a myth). There is not really an absolute way to know which side

you O from unless monitored by ultrasound. Many women do however get

O pains and can pretty much tell which side they are going to O from.

Welcome to the group. I'm sorry for your loss. You will find a great

Chrisanne,

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. It breaks my heart every time I see

someone new introduce themselves here. But, I am glad that this

group IS here for you though. You will find tremendous support out

there and so much knowledge.

Unfortunately I don't know much about your options. All I know is

what I've heard others say, which is that any tubal surgery is

risky. Do you have any objections to going for IVF? It is probably

the safest route when considering the risk of another ectopic, but

that doesn't mean it's the only way to go. I would definately wait

for the HSG and see what the dr has to say. But don't let him talk

you into doing anything you don't want. If what he says doesn't feel

right, get another opinion.

Never give up hope...dreams come true every day.
