Guest guest
I'm sorry you haven't received answers. I take MTX but not the injectible type. I experience fatigue with the pills though. I would suggest calling your doctor about this. It sounds as if you might really need to see him. Sorry I couldn't be more help. I thought I would feel great, but the fatigue and nausea that seems to be from RA was there. dd **************Life should be easier. So should your homepage. Try the NEW AOL.com. Guest guest
Hi , I'm new here. I'm so sorry you have been so sick. I take mtx but have only taken it once. I did not notice any side effects. I take four tablets (no injection). Do side effects usually start right away? I'm so glad I found this group. Everyone has been so nice and helpful. I feel like I'm sitting in someone's living room having a group chat. Again, I'm sorry you feel so badly. My thoughts are with you. Namaste' ... Guest guest
I've never done the inj, I do the pills with no problem (except thinning hair), can you be sure after 3 weeks have passed that it was the mtx causing your fatigue in the first place? Guest guest
Hi : I did answer your post the other day. Maybe you missed it. I am taking my MTX inject. each week with no problems. But when I took the MTX pills I was so sick just like you. I tried them for 6 weeks, and had to go to the injections. Perhaps you need to put a call into your Rheumy, and maybe he/she can give you something for the nausea. I take 2 Leucovorin pillls 12 hours after my MTX injection, and have no nausea. I hope you can find out what is making you so sick. It is awful to feel that way, day in and day out. MTX lasts about 5 days, so I do get tired by the end of each week. Overall, I am doing very good with all my RA meds. I wish you pain free days, and God Bless you. Guest guest
I was on methotrexate for a couple of months and had terrible reactions to it. I literally felt as though I was had been poisoned every time I took it. It never got any better- in fact, the cumulative effect wore me down to the point that I walked around looking haunted all the time (or so I was told by several folks). I know that I felt like a ghost in my own life- I was worn out beyond belief. I also experienced some nutritional problems while on it- in part due to my past history of bariatric surgery and the added insult of what the methotrexate does to your digestive system pushed me over the edge. In desperation I began taking five times the amount of folic acid prescribed. It did help, but only minimally. While on it, I had maybe two good days out of seven. And " good " wasn't especially wonderful. When I told the doctor that I refused to take the medication any longer due to the side effects, I could tell that she did not really believe me but I know that the way I felt when I was on it was for real. For me, that is one BAD medication. I do know others who have little to no difficulties on it. ~Marie

Guest guest
hi marie thanks for the response. mtx after 4 wks also flared up the ulcer i had in the stomach from NSAIDs. i hadn't had any problem with my stomach since stopping the NSAID until after a few wks on mtx. mtx was so awful i would never take it again. woudl honestly rather be in a wheelchair. my ND thinks i had such a severe allergic reaction to it that it crashed my adrenal glands. the last 6 wks have never been so tired in my life. could barely get out of bed. energy was much better b/f taking mtx. what do you take now for your RA marie? i am scared to try more meds as this is the 3rd one i've had a bad reaction to. thanks monique I was on methotrexate for a couple of months and had terrible reactions to it. Guest guest
and group; Hon I think its safe to say we all go through this at times. Unless you ask a question people will think we don't need an answer. I broke out in hives when I took methtrexate. I took it for about 4 weeks till I realized it was the methtrexate breaking me out. So that ended that. My best advise is talk to your rheumy. Fatigue and nausea is aweful way to feel for weeks. Plus you have to work. Let us know what your rheumy says. gentle hugs Clora ********************************************************** > > this is my 3rd post asking for help re my reaction to mtx and noone > replies. i've seen others talk about problems with mtx but no answers to > mine. i don't understand???????? > i took it 4 wks by injection 10 mg and erach week got more fatigued - so > bad i coudl barely get dressed. didn;t leave house for wks. also severe > nausea and dizziness which worsened each week. i stopped it 3 wks ago > and still the symptoms persist. am wondering how long it took others > here who got sick from mtx to recover from the med? > > thanks > monique >
Guest guest
Hi - please accept my sincerest of apologies for not seeing your post before now. I also take MTX injections, but have not had the reaction you are having. I am glad to hear that you have stopped taking it with the reactions you have been getting. Have you called your Rheumy? He/She would be the best one to tell you what to do from here. I would think that after 3 weeks, the MTX symptoms would be gone - perhaps you have something else going on now. Could pregnancy be a possibility? Please contact your Rheumy or GP. Keep us posted. We really do care.......Doreen > > this is my 3rd post asking for help re my reaction to mtx and noone > replies. i've seen others talk about problems with mtx but no > answers to mine. i don't understand???????? > i took it 4 wks by injection 10 mg and erach week got more fatigued > - so bad i coudl barely get dressed. didn;t leave house for wks. > also severe nausea and dizziness which worsened each week. i > stopped it 3 wks ago and still the symptoms persist. am wondering > how long it took others here who got sick from mtx to recover from > the med? > > thanks > monique >
Guest guest
Hi I was on Enbrel but it just didn't seem to make any difference. I can tell the Humera helps some. But nothing I take or do helps my hands. I just try to do all I can. I am really kinda sad this year. I usually make stockings for all the kids each year. I replace the old ones as they need it. as I am trying this year I know that if my RA does not get better, and I am seeing it get worse this will be my last year. My Hands just won't let me.I made two so far this year and it has taken me three months. Geese it used to take a week or so. Guest guest
thanks for the responses. i really appreciate them. finally yesterday the dizziness nausea and fatigue started letting up. thank god. i called the rheumy and the pharmacist. the rheumy told me to stop it which is why i did 3 wks ago. he didn't say how long it woudl take to clear system. the pharm this weekend told me that for some ppl it's weeks and for others mos so the mtx coudl indeed make one sick for weeks afterwards. wow that stuff is powerful. i knew it was thw mtx as a few days after the 1st inj the symptoms began and they got worse each week on it. i was taking folic acid daily and leucovorin 12 h after inj. and stil had this reaction. guess i am very sensitive. monique
Guest guest
Hi : I was glad to read you are starting to feel a little better. It takes time for the MTX to leave our systems. I hope your Rheumy can help you out. I would be lost without my Rheumy. Wishing you better days ahead, and God Bless you.
