Are you sure that it is the band? Could it be teeth or his ears? If

it was really bothering him then I would think it would be irritating

to him all day and night. Just a thought,

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is the band because as soon

as I take it off he falls right back to sleep and then

sleeps peacefully as normal. Any thoughts? I'm

already using the memory foam.

Many babies get too warm during the first week or so with the Doc

Band. Dress him lightly at night, tee shirt and diaper, light blanket

etc... This is one of the most common issues with nighttime sleep

when first banded. Are you noticing any red spots that do not fade in

an hour when the band is removed? You also have to remember that this

is a good age for teething, be sure it is not that. Let me know how it

goes tonight,

Hi,

Welcome to the group! I see you've gotten some good replies already so

I won't repeat what you've already been told. I just wanted to welcome

you to the group. I hope he starts sleeping better for you. Keep us

posted.

See if you can figure out what's bothering him. Like the others

suggested, is he too warm? Some babies have trouble sleeping w/out

being able to put their head on that comfy flat spot, but it will

eventually get easier. I saw you are already using memory foam. Is

it just in his crib then? Sounds like he's just having trouble

getting comfy. The more he wears it the sooner he'll get used to it,

so try and keep it on him. Good luck and hang in there.

Welcome to the group! I agree with the other's suggestions. I think

the more he wears it the sooner he will get used to it. My son was 9

mos. and it never even fazed him. I know every baby is different but

from I have learned, the younger ones adapt really well. I hope he

sleeps better at night soon!

Valerian was good for sleep for me. I took the Melatonin 3mg to fall

asleep and the Valerian to stay asleep. Sorry don't remember the

dosage--I just followed what was on the bottle.

I have had luck using the supplement, Melatonin. I take it every night

and it has really helped me. I am not familiar with sero-negative so I

am not sure if Melatonin will help.

Good luck! [O:)]

does anyone have good ideas about what to do when you can't sleep?

Last night I was up the entire night, wasn't even lucky enough to doze

off.

Also, I am sero-negative. How do I know if the mtx is helping, when the

symptoms are intermittent, blood tests don't give feedback, my rheumy is

always saying " I don't know " . I go back again to see the rheumy

tomorrow...and I dread walking away yet again feeling totally frustrated

and confused about what to do.

For as long as I can remember, I've not been able to go to sleep for a long

time. I just can't shut my brain up long enough. Now I have a sleep doctor

that prescribed temazepam for me. We tried the others and they didn't work

for me. Ambien made me sleep-walk but did make me sleep longer and more

restful, but I didn't like the things I would do, too dangerous for me.

My rheumy put me on amitriptyline a LONG time ago. Several months ago

it stopped working so I saw my pcp and she gave me Ambien CR. It works

good but is too expensive. Also my pcp doesn't want me to take it long

term since it's addicting. I do take melatonin at night, too. Next week

when I see my rheumy again will ask for substitute for amitriptyline.

Good luck to you. Hope your doctor can give you something to help you

sleep.

I wish I had a great answer.  I have been having trouble for several years and

it seems to be getting worse.  If I don't take something I am usually still up

til 3:30 or 4:00 or later.  I am always up by 7:30 or 8:00 so that means some

nights only 2-3 hrs sleep.  Usually once or twice a week I will take Ambien

simply because I am so tired and sometimes even that does not work but most of

the time it does.  I do not nap during the day and stay fairly active.  None of

my dr. have any answers and don't really seem concerned-just take something when

needed-but I really hate to depend on another med.

As far as the MTX is concerned-if it is reliefing or helping the pain and

stiffness that is a good indication that it is working.

Hi - I don't really have any suggestions on the sleep stuff. I

don't work outside of the home, so when I have a sleepless night, I

just kinda shrug it off and try to make up for it the next day.

Sometimes it happens when my pain levels are higher.

How long have you been taking MTX? Do you take other meds for your RA?

If your symptoms are intermittent, try to document when you are in

pain and what is going on around you at the same time like weather,

stress, etc. It could be that you need an increase in the MTX or

another med to go along with it. From what I am understanding, the

goal is to be completely pain free. I've yet to reach that point

myself, but things are getting a little better. I'm limited on the

meds I can take because I don't have insurance.

I know its not much, but I hope this helps a little.

have you tried to take a hot bath right before bed time. it does it to me every

time. Puts me to sleep in a matter of mins after I'm done. It helps to relax

the muscles and relieves the aches I get from the type of work I do.

Hi,

The combo that works for me to sleep is tramadol and lorazepam. Might take

an hour for me to fall to sleep , maybe longer, so i take it around 9 pm, but

i tend to sleep well.

thank you to everyone who replied about trouble sleeping

this week my rheumy doubled my sulfasalzine, plaquenil, and upped the mtxr where

I begin taking weekly shots today--don't know if any of this will impact

sleep--but maybe if I reach the elusive remission I'll be less stressed and

sleep well

I slept more when I used an electric blanket, but I felt less rested. I believe

the electrical field was a problem for me. I do find it helps to be adequately

warm at night. Eating the right things before bedtime helps with that

(something not sugary, because sugar just causes my blood sugar to plummet in

the middle of the night and wake me up). Layers of clothing can help. (Or

sleeping naked, if you don't kick the covers off - it is actually warmer that

way, but if you get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, all

heat is lost. I tried that briefly but for me it wasn't a practical solution

because I was going to the bathroom in the middle of the night and I do tend to

toss and turn and mess up the covers.) The right type of bedding can help. Or a

small space heater nearby blowing directly on me can help (like on my upper or

lower back, to most effectively increase my core body temperature).

Getting healthier has made me have fewer problems with staying warm at night.

If you want to preheat the bed, you can use a hot water bottle to achieve that

without exposing your nervous system to the electrical field created by an

electric blanket. I slept for a time with a hot water bottle, which is

potentially dangerous and potentially messy if the bottle comes open. If you

are a light sleeper and take precautions, it is do-able. But, again, if

something goes wrong, you can end up scalded and/or with water in your bed. I

had very few mis-haps and that was more effective for me than an electric

blanket, which superficially appeared to help but really only made my problems

worse. But you do have to be careful. Buying a hot water with its own custom

cloth cover reduces the odds of contact burns. It more effectively protects

your skin from direct contact with the bottle than wrapping it in a towel like I

did for a long time.

For several years, I have typically awakened in the middle of the night.

Addressing my health issues when I wake up in the middle of the night is

consistently the most effective means to get back to sleep. In recent weeks,

using the bathroom and then having one pill of OLE and one of OoO with some

fruit juice has been the most effective means to quickly get back to sleep.

After a few hours of sleep, as the body's resources get somewhat run down, my

experience has been that infections start acting up. Taking something to treat

that is the best way to get me back to sleep. When I was a lot sicker, I kept a

big glass of water and some bottles of supplements on my nightstand and would

take a bunch of pills when I woke up in the middle of night. For me, fighting

infection around the clock was the only hope I had of getting well. Gradually

getting well has gradually improved my overall quality of sleep -- my ability to

stay asleep and wake up less often during the night, reducing episodes of

insomnia, depth of sleep, feeling of being adequately rested when I do wake up,

etc.

As someone else mentioned, co-q-10 in the morning as helpful to me. I took high

doses for a long time. In the last couple of weeks or so, I rarely take it

anymore and this is a new development. Prior to that, I was taking a low dose

on work-day mornings for the last few months. But I took much higher doses for

several years while working on resolving my health issues. Unlike melatonin,

co-q-10 addresses both halves of the waking and sleeping cycle and most people

become deficient in it as they get older. Co-q-10 helps wake the brain up in

the morning and then causes a spike in melatonin production about 12 hours later

(which is why it needs to be taken shortly after you get up). In contrast,

taking melatonin does not increase production of co-q-10 in the body. Co-q-10

also provides important nutritional support for the brain, heart and lungs --

which was a big part of why I was taking it. Problems with any of those organs

can negatively impact quality of sleep. At one time, I did take melatonin at

night and co-q-10 in the morning to good effect but I had to do some substantial

healing before that worked for me. At one time, melatonin was very problematic

for me. I have found I can take co-q-10 alone to help address sleep issues or

use it in conjunction with melatonin to help sleep, but I cannot take melatonin

alone. I just never feel very awake if I take melatonin at night and do not

take co-q-10 the next day.

Raising the standard of cleanliness on your sleep area might also help. There

are some thoughts here on that idea:
