Guest guest
Kudos to you, Heidi! That takes a lot of will power. I think that it's neat that your puppy can walk on the treadmill. Did it take long for it to learn how? Sue On Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at 03:12 PM, Heidi wrote: > > As far as exercise goes, that has been what has helped my pain the > most. Guest guest
Amazing, Heidi! If she can learn to walk on a treadmill, I think she IS a smart dog! It's good for her health, too, but she must enjoy it, or she probably wouldn't do it. Guest guest
the only exercize that works for me is a heated pool. I stay in until I shrivel like a prune. It is so nice not to hurt for a while.... Many YMCA centers offer Arthritis classes. they are also affordable to all. Many have scholarships and sliding fees.... I use to walk several miles a day. Now getting to my car is an effort. good luck... Raniolo From: occ_susan <occ_susan@...> Subject: [ ] Re: Excerise Date: Saturday, November 29, 2008, 1:36 PM How fortunate to be able to walk. My RA attacks my lower extremities, especially the feet. I find swimming doesn't work because the water is cold and bunches up my muscles making things worse. What do you all recommend? I am lucky to still be able to work, so I guess I could try a gym and ride a stationary bike....sure is hard to make myself get up and go in the cold & dark before work. I think it is the fatigue ore than the cold and dark that makes me back off from exercise. Anyway, I find this post inspirational. ..I know I need to do something after gaining 30 pounds and full blown osteoporosis on prednisone. Also, the mtx is miserable but my feet hurt less, I used to not even put a sheet on them at night, but now I think I could press the pedals on an exercise bike. Any other suggestions out there? > > I wear a pedometer which counts how many steps when I walk. Started out > doing 2000 a day but now do at least 10,000 most days. Guest guest
I have RA really bad in my feet, so I decided to get a recumbent stationary bike. It works really well for me. I decided to just buy one outright instead of going to the gym, because the cost was about the same. It's also very convenient because it's in my basement and I can get up and exercise before the kids are awake. You may find that exercise will give you more energy so that your fatigue isn't as bad. You can try out different ones in the store before you buy them. I couldn't peddle a regular style stationary bike because it really hurt my knees. Good luck with whatever you choose!
