Guest guest
I just had a friend, young 28 years old, healthy, athletic, healthy diet, and full of energy, die from H1N1. She was on life suppport for three weeks before her organs stopped working one by one. The vaccine didn't come out soon enough to save her life. She didn't get the option of taking or not taking the vaccine. Either did the person who exposed her to the virus. Darned Right I'm Getting the Vaccine! Guest guest
I too am getting the vaccine....Most of us would have a much worse life without science....If it is my destiny to be a guinea pig so be it..... Without medicine I would not be alive to worry about getting the vaccine or not.... Guest guest
OKD, She may be reconsidering. Could it be a CYA move? Because you have RA and are on Enbrel, you are in the group who is at a higher risk for complications from an H1N1 infection who should be vaccinated. What is her liability should you become infected and face serious illness? I'll be interested to hear what your rheumatologist says. Guest guest
Hi and Group: She just emailed me back. I asked her if she was " revoking my H1N1 waiver " and this is what she said: " No. Just letting you know what the ACR hotline is recommending. I doubt they will ask me anything but the truth is there is not enough evidence. I still feel it should not be forced in healthcare workers...take care " I trust Dr. Zapata, she brought me back from the abyss of misery, pain and I see hope in my future of living with RA, I was so miserable and depressed and hurting, it was really bad. To the person whose friend died of H1N1, I am terribly sorry for your loss, but this doesnt make me want this vaccine more, people die everyday of the seasonal flu as well, even sometime healthy individuals. Everyone is different. Every vaccine, every drug affects people differently. My eldest daughter had the swine flu, yes, she as knocked down for a few days, she was very ill, but she is ok today. I have to listen to my head, my instinct, that is why God gave it to me. Everyone has their own destiny as well and I carry my confidence (in my head and heart). People have to know always the other side of the discussion too. They are pushing this way too fast, but WHO is benefiting???. Guest guest
I just got my regular flu shot this morning. Our health department has not received the H1N1 vaccine; but when they do, I plan to get that one, too. Guest guest
Hi. So sorry about your friend. I have RA, not currently on agressive meds. I had the H1N1 about 6 weeks ago. It is going around Sothern Il. I am thankful I was not on immune suppresant meds when I had it! It wasn't to unlike the regular flu, except the chest congestion and risk of pnumonia. I get a flu shot yearly and pnumonia shots when scheduled! I would probobly, if on RA meds, get the vaccine! I am fortunate that I don't need to now since I have already had it. I still have a congested cough from it even now all these weeks later. I also have asthma and it takes a little longer to get over congestion. My dr told me that becuse of the Asthma meds, it helped my lungs not get so bad. Again, I am sorry to hear about your friend, the H1N1 is hitting the younger population and pregnant woman hard! (I'm 42) As soon as I got a feaver, I stayed home and away from the public. But to let you know, the H1N1 starts out like you have a cold with a bad headache! Then the feavor, body aches, no energy and severe congestion. I personally would do the vaccine (and had planned on it before getting the virus).
