Guest guest
Diane, I've taken MTX (in increasing doses) for the last 10 years. It never " totally " handled my RA, although I live a perfectly normal life and work part-time. Last year my rheumatologist suggested that I too start one of the biologics. After a long discussion, I began Humira, which I inject every other week, in my abdomen or leg. It has taken away every symptom of RA which hung on over the years. The dr said that it will arrest further progression of the disease and it appears to have done so. It will not take away the joint damage which already exists, which is relatively minimal. I also take 17.5 mg in MTX weekly, injected also. If you are worrying about beginning a biologic, talk to your dr some more. What convinced me to try one is that fact of it " stopping " the disease's progression. 2 years ago I had a nodule on my right lung which turned out to be a rheumatoid nodule. RA is a progressive disease and eventually can damage many organs in your body, besides joints. Good luck to you, Joy (in Columbus OH)
