Your doc appointment was very interesting and so was your posting

about the NAC, etc. In your post you said:

" other sign of Sulphur Intolerance is getting a nasty reaction to

Sulphur based Antibiotics. I always ask my GP not to prescribe the

Antibiotics that can 'make you sick'...her never explained why some

of them do but DR asked me if I could remember the Brand

Names..I couldn't but when he asked if they were Bactrim or Septrim I

remembered that those were indeed the nasty ones for me! "

I remembered a couple months back a similar discussion came up w/

Z. and I about " sulfa " based antibiotics vs. " sulfer " based

supplements such as NAC. I did a search of old posts to find this

info and cut and pasted below.

Re: Re: NAC info for Z.

Kerry, Thanks for the follow-up information about sulfer/sulfa

drugs. It's interesting to find out that my allergy to sulfa drugs

does not mean that I can't take medications that may have sulfer

compounds. I had spoken to the pulmonologist about the study

mentioned in the Pulmonary Paper about NAC. He said that he would

do research to see if the study was adequate enough to prove that

diffusion rate was improved on NAC. He said that I did not need the

NAC for the coughing/mucous...I only have a dry cough...no gunk!!!!!

Thankjs again...Have a great week-end!!!!

There are several misconceptions about sulfur compounds that lead

anxiety about using some natural health care substances. A typical

worry is that a person who is allergic to sulfa drugs may have

problems with substances that contain sulfur. This article is aimed

at clarifying the nature of the substances involved.

considered taking NAC because of the information in regard to

improvement of diffusion rates..but I'm allergic to Sulfa drugs and

the website link stated that it was a derivitive of sulfer. So,

thanks aghain...I'd have trouble with the NAC if I did take it.
