Hi Sue - I don't know where you live, but here in Florida, if we see a black

snake, we can be pretty sure there are no poisonous snakes around. We have a

couple of black racers that hang around our house and I don't mind them a bit.

When my mother was alive, she lived across the street from us. She was deathly

afraid of snakes and she ALWAYS seemed to get the poisonous ones over there -

coral snakes, water moccasins, pigmy rattlers - but it was rare to see a black

one.

Years ago, our dog killed a black snake in our back yard. Next thing we knew, we

saw a coral snake. Then other black racers came back and we haven't seen a

poisonous one since. **knock on wood**.
