Guest guest
Hi Mousie, I have been on mtx (3 weekly) for 10 years now, the ONLY side effects I have are slight thinning of my hair on top. I do take folic in the morning and in the evening also. in PA [ ] Methotrxate Good morning to all, I just want to thank everyone for your postings. I have received very good information & have been able to speak freely with my Rhuemy & he listens & tries very hard to help me be pain free & confortable. I am 53yrs old & was DX in 1-08. Next, I saw him (Rhuemy) this last Tuesday & he has ordered I start taking Methotrexate 2.5mg six pills weekly since he feels RETUXZIN is taking verly long to kick in. He also ordered I take Folic Acid to help releive some symptoms. Can anyone please tell me your expeience with MTX & what to expect with the side affects? I have chronic fatigue since my infusions & new flare ups which I didn't have before Retuxzin. Please advise how to prepare & try to prevent any new issues. Mousie in Calif. Guest guest
Hi Mousie: I started out with the MTX pills, but they made me so sick to my stomach 24/7 that I switched to giving myself a weekly injection. All stomach issues ended, and have been taking my shots successfully for 6+ years now. That is the only issue I have had with any of my RA meds. hugs, Barbara From: M A <pcortas1@...> Subject: [ ] Methotrxate Date: Wednesday, October 28, 2009, 1:12 PM Good morning to all, I just want to thank everyone for your postings. Guest guest
Mouse, I'm taking the same dosage 2.5 mg (6 of them) to help with my RA. I'm also taking Folic Acid. He increase it to two a day for me due to thin hair and other symptoms. I doing good with it and no pain at all. I just don't like the side effect of the medication like suppress your immune system, if you get a cold it will take longer for you to get over it. But on the other hand it's helping my RA. I've been taking the Methotrexate for a few months now and like I said it's helping me. I hope this will work for you. It will take a few weeks for the medications to kick in. If you have any side effects please tell your Rheumy Dr right away. I keep track of when I get sick and how long I've been sick and how I felt. So when I see him I can tell him. Yes you may feel fatigue after you take the Methotrexate. I do anyway. I hope this work for you. \ Christa
Guest guest
Good morning Christa, Thanks for your input. I am really scared of loosing my hair again. When I took Lefluimide I lost alot of hair & was so embarrased. My Rhuemy did tell me I might loose some hair but it will grow once I stop this treatment. I have very fine thin hair & if I loose any of it, it is very noticeable but I guess this is what I need to live with in order to be pain free. Thanks again. Mousie in Calif. Guest guest
I have been taking MTX 2.5 mg (first 6 pills weekly, just increased to 8 pills weekly three weeks ago) for about three months now. I have had no side effects. I also take prednisone daily and meloxicam for pain. Jeanne in Iowa > > Good morning to all, > I just want to thank everyone for your postings. Guest guest
Hi Mousie: I too have baby fine hair, and it has thinned since taking the RA meds. I wear my hair very, very short, and this helps. I pray I don't lose it all as I would hate that. So far, I can live with the thinning, and be pain free and no flares. Take care and don't worry. We are all survivors with this beast RA. Wishing you many pain free days ahead. Guest guest
My mom has been taking Methotraxate and Folic Acid since February. She still is having pain in her joints and her gastroenterologist (she is diabetic and he believes she also has gastroparesis) thinks it is irritating her stomach plus she believes it causes her to feel fatigued. On the 9th she will begin Orencia and over time the Methotrexate will go down to a maintenance dose. She took prednisone for a long time and her RA slowly took her off that.
