Guest guest
Doreen, Some researchers have concluded that people with RA have a greater risk of developing lymphoma because of the disease itself, not because of the medications/biologics which are used to treat it. It may be that uncontrolled, severe inflammation is linked with lymphoma risk. Guest guest
Hi guys, well if you look at FDA website for biological dmards, you will see the same information I posted. FDA has listed lymphomas for young adults and even kids for patients who take these biologic dmard drugs. I never look at drug company data anymore because so many of them are are distorted. They are finding out every day how big pharma is distorting data. Just google and research. Please also look at website askapatient.com for enbrel and related drugs. There are lots of problems for biologic dmards. Even my rheumy admitted that I could develop shingles and lymphomas using biologics. He also stated they give biologics as a last resort(Just think carefully why this the last resort:)) after trying other safer dmards since biologics have a tendency for very serious side effects. If there is a need and nothing can stop the progression then by all means one has to take the drug no matter what the consequences. Guest guest
I understand, Doreen. I was just adding that there is a possiblity that lymphoma may not be a side effect of the TNF blockers. Guest guest
Arshad, The causal relationship between the TNF blockers and lymphoma is not proven. Lymphoma in RA patients was an issue before the development of the biologics. The anti-TNF biologics are not agents of last resort. The biologic rituximab is used to treat both certain types of lymphoma and rheumatoid arthritis. Guest guest
I personally know 2 people, 1 an RA patient and the other psoriatic arthritis patient, who had lymphoma before going on an anti-TNF medication. Both their doctors told them that there appears to be a higher risk of lymphoma in patients with RA/PA/certain autoimmune diseases. Both are now on anti-TNF medications, one on Enbrel, the other Humira. *~ Kami ~* Re: [ ] Re: Cimzia Approved for Rheumatoid Arthritis Arshad, The causal relationship between the TNF blockers and lymphoma is not proven. Guest guest
I think I've said this before to the group: " For me to stop Enbrel, they would have to pry it from my cold, dead hands. " I have been on Enbrel for over five years, and have no adverse side effects, except an occasional mild injection site reaction. Nor do I get frequent infections. It works wonders for me; I can hardly even tell that I have RA. I had shingles and breast cancer after my RA symptoms started, but way before I started Enbrel. We have to weigh the risks and benefits. I fear the RA much more than I do the Enbrel. I like it so well that I even bought a little stock in the company. Guest guest
Do you you know how much pressure that puts on me? Now if I don't come up with something funny everyone's gonna think I can't do it, then we're both screwed and you're gonna blame me. 1. Charlton Heston on the mountain, stone tablets in hand, one reads " ENBREL " the other reads " DIRECTIONS FOR USE " . 2. In Will Penny Charlton Heston lays in the back of a wagon on the virge of death, the drivers are excited 'cause they're going into town when Charlton Heston whispers, " you boys remember to get my Enbrel before ya start drinking. " 3. Charlton Heston in the future, he discovers how they make Enbrel, " they make it out of people, " he screams, " they make it out of people! " 4. Charlton Heston alone in the world, he's surrounded by vampires. One of the vamps breaks in, he looks horrible, all white with black eyes and broken bones. Charlton Heston mummers, " that's what happens when you don't take you're Enbrel. " 5. One of of his most famous lines, " take you damn arthritic paws off me you stinking ape! " And my favorite true story about Charlton Heston was when he told us about the filming of Ben Hur. He went to the Stunt Director very concerned about the chariot race sequence, it was a huge deal to film this thing and they only had a limited window of opportunity to get it right. He very seriously told the Stunt Director that he could drive the chariot but he wasn't really sure he could " win " the race. The Stunt Director looked at him blankly (as though he were developmentally disabled) then finally said sarcastically, " you just stay on the ### damn chariot, I guarantee you're win the ###ing race! " Stan Seattle, Sun breaks. Sue, you have said that before. Your new nickname is now " Charlton Heston. " I know Stan will have fun with that.
