Guest guest
I knit as well and stopped using the metal needles and started using the bamboo needles, I have found them to be very light weight and they don't leave the nasty coloring from the metal on what I'm working on. I unfortunately cant knit for a long period of time but try to get about 30 mins in when I can. The smallest size needle I can handle for that long is a size 7 or 8 anything smaller makes my hands ache too much. [ ] Any knitters here? I have been knitting for as long as I can remember. My Grandma taught me in 2nd or 3rd grade & I have been in love with it ever since. But now that I have RA, my hands just can't tolerate it & I miss it SO much. I was just doing some on line research & saw some info about different types of needles that are supposed to be " arthritis " friendly. Everything from lite weight plastics that are warm to the touch to square needles that are supposed to be easier to grip. Does anyone have any experience with these? Or any other tips for making it work? I really want to get back into it.... Just one more thing about RA that I really hate Thanks! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ No viruses found in this incoming message Scanned by iolo AntiVirus 1.5.3.5 http://www.iolo.com _______________________________________ No viruses found in this outgoing message Scanned by iolo AntiVirus 1.5.3.5 http://www.iolo.com

Guest guest
Oh , My grandmother taught me how to crochet when I was very young and I am still " trying " to continue it. However, lately I have been noticing a lot more pain in my right hand and was wondering if that could be the culprit to the pain. I already have a severely deformed looking wrist as it is. I was told it was due to " bone effusion " , sort of like all of my wrist bones have grown together. I have considered surgery, but was told my bones would have to be removed and a flat plate would replace the bones. The surgeon said that I " should " be able to continue crocheting after the healing phase, but I am so afraid to go have it done. I think crocheting may be easier on the hands and fingers than knitting, but since I have never knitted, I could be wrong. If you do find a website that sells needles for arthritic people, please let us know and I will do the same. I know when I did medical transcription they had skin fitting gloves and thought about trying those. Also my SIL has " heated " computer gloves she got for Christmas, wonder if those would help us? Just a thought! Sending big Texas Hugs, On Wed, May 13, 2009 at 8:51 PM, keptoz <keptoz@...> wrote: > I have been knitting for as long as I can remember. Guest guest
When my hands aren't acting up, I've found the wooden needles to be the best. They aren't as slippery as the plastic and metal needles, which for me makes it that much easier. I also use circular needles, especially on larger projects, because they help take the weight of the project off of your hands. I do hope that you're able to find something to work on. I do a ton of cross stitch and needlepoint because they really do help me ease my mind. Lori http://home.comcast.net/~queenstitcher/ http://stitchingqueen.multiply.com [ ] Any knitters here? Guest guest
Thanks for all the replies. I think I'm going to try out wooden needles - maybe the bamboo ones & I like the idea also of using circular needles. I'm really itching to get back into it. I know realistically I won't be able to do hours on end like I used to, but maybe in 10-15 min increments throughout the day. I always found it to be such a great stress reliever. > > When my hands aren't acting up, I've found the wooden needles to be the best. Guest guest
I love to crochet but my 'susan bates " needles are too thin for me to operate anymore. I've had my eye on these two needles. Just haven't made up my mind on getting them yet. If anyone has tried them, please let me know how they work. Thanks! Guest guest
I'm a self taught knitter . There are a lot of great books out there, but you can also find a lot of instructional videos for free online. Knitting is not hard at all and can be very relaxing. But I did check out the website and found all kinds of goodies in their store. I wish we had a JoAnn's around here. Thank you for telling me about JoAnn's Fabric. I'll have to check out the website a little more when I have time.
