Hi Helen,

My portions don't always have to be small. Last week, I had a restaurant

size meal - meat loaf, green beans, mashed potatoes and part of a corn bread

muffin. BG's were around 110.

Not really. If I got a high number, the next time I ate that food, I would

eat a smaller amount. I changed my testing schedule and that was fine with my

doctor. She had me testing fasting and after dinner. I wanted to know how

breakfast and lunch foods were affecting bg's so I started testing differently.

I was doing okay with bg's, then I joined a support group. I realized later

that most of those members followed Atkins. However, I thought they were

right and everyone else was wrong, including my doctor. I told them about

eating

mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving and getting a reading of 89. Still, they

told me I could not eat potatoes. I could not eat tomatoes. In fact, there was

very little food I could eat according to them. It nearly put me in the

hospital. I was ready to give up. I was getting lows every two hours.

Finally, I

realized they knew nothing about me, about my body or what I could or could

not eat. I left that group.

I went back to eating what I wanted. I reached my weight goal. I went off

diabetes meds and two meds for blood pressure. I have the A1c done once a

year. In June it was 5.22.

Even my doctor cannot tell me what to eat or not to eat. She can only give

me guidelines. She knows this. She also uses me as an example with her other

patients. She shares with her patients about me eating tacos, then exercising

afterwards.

Diabetes is different for everyone. We, as a group, cannot tell members what

they cannot eat. We can make suggestions, it is up to them to find their own

food plan.

When you were first diagnosed , didn't you watch what you ate carefully?

Then add what you wanted to try and test? Helen

Crystal said she didn't remember what I was doing re eating...

I didn't mention in that particular post

that I have been on Best Bet Diet (100% faithful) since 2004 + a host of 26

foods I tested skin test and IgE allergic or intolerant. (I was always

intrigued that virtually every food I tested IgE Positive was also on the

Best Bet Diet along with getting on LDN since early 2005 until that relapse

in 2007.

And while this has done some good things, no more mouth sores for the most

part, much less specific symptoms of certain things..it has been 3.5 years

now on this program.
