Hi ,

Although I am not a doctor, I want to agree with you that it is

costochondritis.  I had never heard of such a thing until April 26, 2009.  My

husband had to bring me to the ER on a Sunday night because I was having bad

pain on both sides of my neck and down into my chest.  Every time I took a

breath or moved it hurt and I had no idea what was happening.  The doctor at the

ER prescribed Voltaren and Lortab and sent me home.  He said the lympnods in my

neck were swollen.  I

had a check up four days later at my primary doctor and he said it was

costochondritis.  The Voltaren really seems to help, and although my primary

doctor wouldn't authorize a refill for it, my rheumatologist did.  I guess

Voltaren is a anti-inflammatory, and I was told my rheumatologist not to take

Aleve with it.

I wish you the best, and I'm sorry to hear you're in pain.

Ok I have pain right in the middle of my chest. It is right between my breast

but only hurts when I move a certain way but not when I take deep breaths. It

hurts the worst when I push on it right between my breasts. I know it isn't a

heart attack or anything like that because it feels like muscle or tendon like

pain and not a true chest pain.

So I am thinking costochondritis is the cause. Some of the symptoms fit but some

don't. Anyone have any ideas? My sternum is very sensitive and it wasn't this

way before I went to bed. I woke up this way. However, as you all know, you can

wake up with all kinds of weird crap with this RA stuff. My elbow is locked as

well and I didn't have that when I went to bed either.

Boy don't you love waking to see what weird symptom you will have next. LOL

Thanks ,

I did take Lortab and Mobic this morning for it. It doesn't hurt to breath but I

am pretty sure its inflammation.

Hi Marie,

Yes it is in middle of back and shoulders now that you mention it. It probably

is the RA. That is what I thought about too this morning.

Thanks again,

Hi - I'm a little behind on my posts, but it sounds like you need to get

with your doctor and possibly have some x-rays done. Please try not to

self-diagnose. I know how easy that is to do (I've done the same). But, you

really need to be evaluated by your doctor.

Hope you are feeling better.....Doreen :)

Hi :

I am still fairly new on the group, but I just have to share my little

" surprise awakening " story with you. A few weeks ago I fell asleep in my

recliner for the night. The next morning it seem like it took me forever to

unfold my body, which was so sore. I noticed that my left breast felt

sore. When I reached up to feel it, there was a HUGE lump under the skin.

I don't even have to tell you just how scared I got. But I also knew that

normally a cancerous lump just didn't appear overnight. I went to my reg

doc who sent me straight over to the Breast Clinic for a mammogram (had just

had one 4 months earlier), and a sonogram. The doctor came in and told me

that apparently the lump was a bruise because there was some discoloration

on my breast, like a bluish/green color like on a bruise. He said that the

mammogram and sonogram did not show anything to be concerned about. He said

to watch it for 2 months and if it was still there to come back.

Well, as time went by the lump did dissolve, but not before my entire breast

turned black and blue. Now here is my question, HOW did I get a bruise so

big that it caused a huge lump and turned black and blue WITHOUT me knowing

what happened?? That is an area that I think I would have remembered if I

had of ran into something. The doctor said that just me being rolled up in

a ball in my recliner all night could have caused it...possibly my elbow or

knee pressing up against it.

So yes, I agree with you, love getting up to new bruises or pain each

morning!! Geez!

Soft Hugs,

Susie,

That is terrible and weird. I hope it never happens again. I have had more

strange things happen since I got this dang disease. Weird pains, symptoms,

illness out of the blue you name it. I have been having strange pains and

sensations in my right rib area for quite sometime now. I will be getting a CT

scan (finally) next week. I hope it doesn't turn out to be anything serious.

As for the pain in my chest, it went away. I am pretty sure it was

costochondritis now.
