Guest guest
, I'm sorry about your diagnosis and that your RA. Your rheumatologist has the right idea - remission is the goal. Undertreated RA is more likely to have more serious consequences than any of the DMARDs, including Enbrel. Guest guest
Hi ! I'll be 25 next month:). I was diagnosed at the age of 16 and started out on enbrel and methotrexate (and naprosyn and prednisone). I absolutely love enbrel, however you have to keep in mind that everyone is different and we all have unique treatment regimens because we respond differently to medications. This is a disease thatmust be treated aggressively or it can cripple or take over one's life. I know that enbrel is the reason I'm still walking today, and able to work. The side effects of these medications sound scary, but that doesn't mean you will suffer from the side effects. I personally made the choice that I would rather take my chances with the side effects (though there isn't a guarantee that I would get them) thane live with the pain and becoming crippled (my RA was extremely aggressive and I was told that if I wasn't aggressive with it, I would be in a wheelchair in a matter of months which I don't believe is a typical response). I was able to keep playing sports, go to college, and still ride horses, train dogs, and play with my niece and nephews. A positive attitude and a good nutrition program and understanding support group really goes a long way. If you would like to talk to someone your age, I can do that:). Good luck!
