Guest guest
I am on the max dose of 40 mgs of Pred a day now. My hair- strangely enough- is actually fuller than it has ever been! I have taken Pred on & off for 12 years for health issues other than RA. Weird.... Â in SC Â I saw a dermatologist for my thinning hair and she said the main culprit was the 5 mgs of prednisone I am taking. She asked me to ask my rheumy about getting off of it. Said that I did ask him years ago and he told me that 5 mgs is not a very high dose at all and he would like me on it. I called him again this week and the nurse called to tell me that Dr V said I've been on the prednisone for too many years and it would almost impossible to get me off of it. How come such a small mg. can be almost impossible to wean off of? Anyway, looks like there is no getting off the pred. Guess I will be wispy haired all my life. LOL Hugs..a

Guest guest
Me too a. I doubt I will ever be off my Pred. It really does wonders for me and my RA. I would love to be thin again, and have thicker hair, but I traded it all for a pain free life. Pain free won!!!!  Hugs,  Barbara
Guest guest
I am trying to wean myself off of prednisone. What problems will I face? Thanks so much for this group! Guest guest
Don, the first thing you'll have to face is failure if you are like me (and most others). I've been on 10-15 mg since 1990 and have tried to get off it a dozen times or more with no luck. There is a gland, I don't remember the name, that produces Cortisone. Prednisone replaces that and the gland shuts down because it has nothing to do. Apparently, it's hard to restart, so when we go lower on Prednisone and there is no Cortisone like we're used to, more great pain is the result! My Rheumy is telling me that if I go on one of the Biologics I can have more luck quitting the Prednisone. At least that's the way I understand things. And, a, it doesn't seem to have an effect on my hair. It's really thin anyhow. lol Dennis in eastexas On Fri, Nov 5, 2010 at 2:05 PM, Jana Powers <jp42420@...> wrote: > > > I am trying to wean myself off of prednisone.
