Guest guest
Vicki, Your ankle pain sounds just like what I have when I'm at my worst. It can be so discouraging! I, too, struggle to keep working. I really feel that I could qualify for disability, but can get better retirement pay if I can make it one more year. I'm sure you are wearing shoes with good support. The only suggestion I have is a phrase that friend shared with me a couple of years ago. " Save your steps for the beach! " (or whatever is important to you) Don't feel guilty for using the special parking spaces if you have the permit. Save every painful step you can for something you really want to do! If you can delegate tasks at work, do it! If there is someone at home that can help with chores, let them! Hopefully, this is a flare for you & it will get better in time. I have been there many times! Take care! Judy From: Vicki <gramvick@...> Subject: [ ] painful walking Date: Monday, December 8, 2008, 2:29 PM I am wondering if anyone else has experienced ankle pain on both sides that makes it very painful to walk. This feels similar to walking on two severely sprained ankles. I have both a cane and a walker and still can barely navigate. As of now I have tried therapy, {deep heat massage, ultra sound, and electrodes} , have went back on the prednisone {40 Mgs twice daily} had my oxyconitin upped to 40 mgs twice daily instead of 20, plus added the immediate release capsules of the same in 10 mgs, and of course I still take the Lyrica, Cymbalta, MTX and Humira and Ambien. I saw my medical doctor and therapist both this morning, and I see my Rheumy next Monday, they also did set me up with a another Rheumy who is supposed to be one of the best in this area and is closer to me but I cannot see him until Jan 27 so.......... ......waiting on that one. No one seems to have any answers. What I am looking for here is any ideas on relieving some of this pain other than quitting my job. I am not in a place financially to be able to do that, and to be honest I really enjoy my work. I don't know what I would do with myself if I quit. Guest guest
Judy, Thank you so much for your reply. Always helps to know others have been where I am in this battle. I know this is a flare and that it will pass. Have been in this spot many times before, Just has never lasted this long before, nor been quite this painful. I do have the high support shoes and custom made orthotics as well. I wear braces on both ankles when working. I am a restaurant Manager so yes I can delegate tasks. Lately I do an awful lot of office work. I to would qualify for disability but would not be enough to pay the bills. I am only 47, 48 in Feb so have a few more years to go before retirement benefits will kick in. Is just so hard to believe. A year ago I could walk, had all of my teeth, Could still see, had a little swelling in my left hand and wrist. Docs ran tests for carpal tunnel. Who would have thought it would all turn out to be aggressive RA and that it would advance this fast. Especially with the meds I am taking. Each day I just count my blessings as I know it could be so much worse. My cancer is back in remission, My children and grand children have their health. So many are not so lucky with the economy and society the way it is. Sure makes me feel gui8lty for complaining. Which is why I love this group. You all understand and do not judge. Just wanted to say Thanks Vicki Iowa Vicki, Your ankle pain sounds just like what I have when I'm at my worst. It can be so discouraging! I, too, struggle to keep working. Guest guest
Vicki and group; I know how you feel. My ankles has hurt for many years. I am diangosed with fibro and RA. I don't know which causes it but one does I am sure. My ankles hurt for years while I worked. I would come home limping many a day. Whoa predisnoe 40 mg twice daily. How are you with the side affects of prednisnone? I love prednisone and oxycontin. I guess you get ammuned to it after awhile. I know to well what taking pain medications do to us. A necessary evil for pain I think I heard someone say. I am so sorry about your pain. I pray you find out what it is and get better. Mine don't hurt if I stay off of them. I realize you have to walk to work. God bless and take care. Sorry I couldnt help. Guest guest
Wow, Vicki - I'm so sorry to hear your ankles are so painful. I've had pain in mine before, but the meds you are taking should have helped (I would have thought). Do you go to a pain management doctor, too? You are on some pretty hefty meds. Maybe can you call the Rheumy's office that you are supposed to see in January and see if they have any cancellations? Can your regular docs get you some kind of ankle braces in the meantime? My prayers are with you in that they can figure out why you are in so much pain. Take care. Keep us posted.
