Guest guest
On Wed, my Rheumy pulled me off Sulfasalazine & Naprolen ( - six weeks into Sulfasalazine & I was having Lupus like flares & so now she is reevaluating exactly what is wrong with me - orig she said I was sero-neg RA) Anyway - until all the rest of the tests come back, she has me on 10mg of Prednisone daily. I started Thursday morning - today (Fri) I woke up with the cold that my 2 year old has had for a few days now. Should I call my dr about stopping the med? I know it lowers wbcs & decreases your immune system. But would that apply more to fighting some more serious infection rather a cold? Guest guest
I have never heard of stopping prednisone for a cold. Maybe someone else here knows more. I have been on it a long time and my rheummy has never mentioned holding it back for anything. Guest guest
I take my prednisone when sick, but I cannot tell you what you should do However, my hubby and I both recently had colds and we were sick for the same amount of time. Guest guest
Ira, it took me months to ween off the prednisone. I was on it for over 7 years, it destroyed my adrenaline system. Now I have to take a beta blocker to help regulate the heart rate. Prednisone does terrible things, wish I neber took it. I weened my self off it in 3-4 months time being that i was on it so long. I was down to 15 mg, and went three weeks on 15mg, then went down to 12.5 mg for three weeks, then to 10 mg. for three weeks, then to 7mg for three weeks, then to 5mg for two weeks then 2.5 mg for two weeks, then down to 1 mg a day for two weeks, then I started skipping every other day at 1 mg. for a couple of weeks till I deleted them down to taking therr time a week then I stiopped. the doase was low enough to stop taking. You have to be careful weening off this drug, can cause liver damage coming off to quick. hope this helped, check with your Doctor and see what he suggest is the best for you, everyone is different. I'm down to 2 mgs. while I am trying new med. (Rituxan). I can't go any lower the new med. hasn't kicked in yet, but I am not giving up yet he said it can take 3-4 months and it has only been 1 1/2 months. I'm really hoping to get off completely someday.I would talk to your rhum. or wait for the new one before you lower anymore, do you have any other med. to replace the pred? Good luck getting off of it and I hope you find a good Rhum. it took me years, but I finally did so don't giv up. Jeannie > > Hi All, > > No response to my previous post about GI problems -- no problem, guess nobody could relate. Have decided to go off the prednisone. I am on 4mgs daily and it is messing up my digestion. Can't get my rheumy on the phone and don't see him until the 29th. (I will be switching to a new rhuemy asap -- anyone know a good one in the DF Bay area)? > > Anyway how should I wean myself off the prednisone?
