Guest guest
Hi and welcome. I used to get slurred speech. I would make sure I never had any alcohol if I was going out so people wouldn't smell it on my breath and think I was drunk. I would explain to everyone at work in case it happened as, at that stage, I didn't know what it was. It used to be disturbing but many people have told me that they didn't notice. I found that just a sip of water would stop it. Then I found the Best Bet Diet (of which you'll find a lot on this site) and within weeks my slurred speech (blurred vision, MS bear hug, and so many other little symptoms) disappeared. I'd encourage you to look at the BBD. Good luck and hope you feel better soon. Janet To: mscured From: marysinc@... Date: Wed, 3 Feb 2010 04:16:05 +0000 Subject: hello, I am new to this group My name is and I have been dx'd with MS since 2002. Since then I have had 7 acute ms exacerbations which required hospitalization and high dose IV solumedrol treatments. The last acute exacerbation I had was on 1/10/10, for which I was hospitalized for many days and given IV steroids. I subsequently caught bronchitis, then swine flu complicated by asthma and ended up being hospitalized for around 15 days total. I told doctors not to give me levaquin because I am allergic to it, but was given levaquin anyway. I then suffered an allergic reaction to levaquin which caused nightmares, insomnia and itchy skin rashes and wheezing. I am home right now after being discharged on 1/26/10 still trying to recuperate and regain my strength, but still ill with bronchitis, wheezing and muscle weakness. This attack was different in the others in that my left side of my face drooped, my speech was severely slurred, and I had weakness in my right arm and both legs as it always does during every previous attack. The doctors initially thought I had a mild stroke, but did a ct scan that was normal, then did an MRI that showed lesions, so it turned out to be the MS symptoms and not a stroke. This was very disturbing to me as I have never had any speech problems before. The word aphasia and dysarthria were mentioned to me, but not explained clearly. Has anyone else experienced stroke like symptoms or slurred speech? This a frightening new twist that I fear may recur when I return to work, making me appear drunk. It seems during the attack the speech would slur and then go back to normal then get worse. _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail: Trusted email with powerful SPAM protection. https://signup.live.com/signup.aspx?id=60969
Guest guest
Hi Janet, Nice to meet you. Thanks for the tips. I have not heard about sipping water but will definitely keep this in mind if my slurred speech comes back. My slurred speech was so bad, people couldnt understand a word of what I was saying, so I hope that was only during the acute ms exacerbation which seems to have resolved after several days of IV solumedrol. I am already on a really strict diet regimen for the past 12 months due to gluten sensitivity, but I am going to research this BBD that people are talking about on this site. > > Subject: RE: hello, I am new to this group (slurred speech) > To: " MS-Cured " <mscured > > Date: Wednesday, February 3, 2010, 5:03 AM > > Hi and welcome. > > > > I used to get slurred speech.
