Guest guest
My name is and I have been dx'd with MS since 2002. Since then I have had 7 acute ms exacerbations which required hospitalization and high dose IV solumedrol treatments. The last acute exacerbation I had was on 1/10/10, for which I was hospitalized for many days and given IV steroids. I subsequently caught bronchitis, then swine flu complicated by asthma and ended up being hospitalized for around 15 days total. I told doctors not to give me levaquin because I am allergic to it, but was given levaquin anyway. I then suffered an allergic reaction to levaquin which caused nightmares, insomnia and itchy skin rashes and wheezing. I am home right now after being discharged on 1/26/10 still trying to recuperate and regain my strength, but still ill with bronchitis, wheezing and muscle weakness. This attack was different in the others in that my left side of my face drooped, my speech was severely slurred, and I had weakness in my right arm and both legs as it always does during every previous attack. The doctors initially thought I had a mild stroke, but did a ct scan that was normal, then did an MRI that showed lesions, so it turned out to be the MS symptoms and not a stroke. This was very disturbing to me as I have never had any speech problems before. The word aphasia and dysarthria were mentioned to me, but not explained clearly. Has anyone else experienced stroke like symptoms or slurred speech? This a frightening new twist that I fear may recur when I return to work, making me appear drunk. It seems during the attack the speech would slur and then go back to normal then get worse.
