Hi everyone! I just joined this Group and am looking foward to

participating. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis several years

ago. I've been seemingly managing my R.A. by taking only two (2) 200 mg. of

ibuprofen daily - for several years, but in past 3 months my R.A. seems to be

getting worse. Three months ago - my Doc prescribed

thyroid med for my low thyroid. (My doc told me that mine (thyroid) was

a little bit low), but it has since already gotten Normal so my Doc lowered by

generic synthroid to half the former dose (now being: 25 MCG tablets.)

I'm wondering if the thyroid med could have caused my R.A. to become worse.

Have any of you experienced this problem, also?

I read recently that low thyroid can cause a person's cholesterol to get

higher. Three mo's ago when I was prescribed the thyroid med -- I was also

prescribed a statin drug (generic Zocor (simvastin) for high cholesterol. After

taking it only 2 months my Cholesterol was Normal Again and the good part -was

that I only took half of a 10 mg. tablet of the Simvastin! ; (( Same thing

happened to

me a year ago; (i took just 5 mg. for 2 months and my bad (LDL) CHOLESTEROL

dropped to Normal), fortunately! But last year AND recently,

my HDL (good cholestrol) level remained around 36 which I understand is too

low. Does any of You know how High my good Cholesterol (HDL) - should be?

I'm glad I found this group and hope we can help each other. It's nice to

find Support Groups! P.S. My R.A. was Severe 6 or 7 years ago, but it seemed

to just get better on it's own! And I did have those bad flares - several times

plus I had a large swelling on my hand - near my wrist (on my right hand) - for

a few years and Thank goodness - that large swelling finally went away. Six and

7 years ago - I did have severe pain--around That Swelling - and I had the

severe pain on several different occasions. I would awake during the middle of

the night with Severe pain; felt to me as if a knife was being inserted all way

thru my wrist bone/ joint and it would last for 12 to 15 hours; this was on

several occasions and there would be real red swelling. One of my wrists would

do THAT way and in a short time That wrist would get better and stop hurting

Severe and then my other wrist would do the same way; it seems that 2nd wrist

Flared up in a day or two After the other - but It might have been a week later.

Also, perhaps worth mentioning. I took Bextra for 3 years and I

quit taking it - just before it was taken off the Market! And low and behold

----- my R.A. hurt Lots Less --than when I was taking the Bextra. Also worth

noting: when my R.A. was at it's very worse --my

blood test results Were Negative! - but a year later My blood tests were

" positive " for R.A. and it seems that when it showed up Positive - that my R.A.

symptonms were Not as bad as it was Prior to that.

Could I mention another happening? I take Zyprexa , 2.5 mg. for Bipolar

Disorder and my R.A. was it's Most Severe - just prior to my being prescribed

the Zyprexa! (and I'd been off any nerve meds for 4 years--at that time). And a

strange thing happened: After taking the Zyprexa 2.5 mg. for one year - I

stopped taking it and did not take any nerve meds for 8 months --- and then my

R.A. got 95 percent as bad as it had been - the first go-round --- with all that

Severe pain - lasting again for 12 to 15 hours per occasion! (I cried and I

don't know how to WORD this - but my arms would not function: I could not even

put a pony-tail holder in my hair --------on those Worst occasions. I think I

already stated Above - that on those Worst occasions - several years ago --- I

would awake in the middle of the Night - with that UNBEARABLE pain and those

incidents were on several different occasions. At the time I read in my medical

book that Gout and bone cancer, both, could cause a person to awake in the

middle of the night With Unbearable PAIN! Have any of you had this type of

experiences? I forgot to mention Above - that I Started taking my Zyprexa

(anti-psychotic) (one of the newer atypical anti-psychotics) --right after my

R.A. got worse ---towards the end of those 8 months, when I'd stayed off Zyprexa

and also was Not taking any nerve med's at that time.

I have read that Stress can help bring on R.A. So in my case I believe

that Zyprexa helps my R.A. !!! and I believe my recent prescriptions of my

thyroid med and / or the Statin med. (for my high Cholesterol) MIGHT be causing

my Zyprexa ---to NOT be as affective as it's been in the past. I wonder if the

Statin drug could block my Zyprexa -- sort of the way that it blocks OR causes

PERSONS --NOT to

make Cholesterol (OR NOT AS MUCH CHOLESTEROL). I thought I'd read that the

Statin drugs causes our Livers NOT to manufacturer ANY cholesterol, but 3 mo's

ago my Doc told me: " Your Liver still makes cholesterol but just not as much

cholesterol! " Did your Doc tell you the same thing and / or what info have

You found upon any research. Thanks for reading my Post. I did not intend

to write a book HERE! l o l! Have a Nice Day! God Bless Everyone! Mrs.

Blackmon; GA (USA).

Hi Judy

Welcome to the group. I have found that if I have a question, an answer, or

somthing to grip about, someone is always here to listen.
