Are the schools closed? If so, I am going to try to call Cody....

Good Morning

Good morning all! Dallas is covered in snow and ice but here I am at

work. It took me 2 hours to drive in this morning seeing I live so

far. Don't know if will work today or not. The roads are

really bad and no improvement is expected. Not supposed to get out of

the 20's today here. They are calling for more freezing rain tonight!

Ugh! Well just wanted to tell you all that I am here and I got the

webcam up and running at home now so if you have Yahoo Messenger I do

also. My ID is etphonehome57. That way you can see me as we visit!

Only one more day home... and only 3 1/2 hours of daycare left! LOL

:)

Good morning

> Just wanted to wish everyone a great morning(I didn't want to miss

anyone's good morning that was posted) I am trying to catch up with

everything and don't want to miss. Today is my last day of daycare so I can

try and get somethings done tomorrow because we have to leave the house at

5am on Friday for the c-section(and I can't wait.. I feel like a house! LOL)

I will keep popping in until Thursday night then I will be AWOL until

sometime next week. Then I will be able to send pics of the baby for

everyone to see. Have a great one and for all you northerners... try and

stay warm!

Luanne, Plaquenil is a slow acting drug, that may take up to six months to be effective, but can be

very good with Lupus symptoms. It also helps lower blood pressure and blood sugars if those are

problems for you, as they are for some of our members. As for immunosuppressants, I have managed to avoid them thus far, but the docs are talking about them for me, too. I have no experience with them thus far, though. For me, Plaquenil has put me into negative ANA's for about

two thirds of my tests. This is good progress. My malar rash, skin lesions are lessening as well. Not

gone, and certainly not forgotten, but much improved. I hope they will do the same for you. Since

you have neurological involvement, too, you may need to be referred to a neurologist for some

further testing and treatment options. Discuss this with your rheumy, too. Please keep us posted

on your progress. Hugs, MM

Dont worry about remembering all the names ..

I have been here since Jan 2001, and I still get confused sometimes.

Your daughter will cope .. just tell her the truth. Explain to her

exactly what is going on with you .. never hedge the truth. If she

wants to know .. tell her.

As far as your daughter having to pick up doing the things that you

cannot do .. that is all part of being a family. Just as long as you

remember to give her her own time as well.

Children are resilient and if given the chance to talk out their

feelings with someone who is not going to lie to them, they usually

turn out just fine.

I had my first heart attack when my youngest son was 12 yrs. old. He

was the one who gave me CPR and kept me going till the rescue got

here. We knew that the time might come, so my kids took a CPR course

just in case they ever needed it. Being prepared may save your life

and your daughter would feel even worse if she could not tell the

rescue squad anything that is going on with you.

Now .. your facial pain. It could be a number of things, it could be

the lupus, but I am guessing that you have been under a deal of stress

lately and have been gritting your teeth a lot in having to deal with

pain. The joints in the jaw can become inflammed just as any other

joint in the body. And .. when inflammed, they can cause muscle spasms

in the jaw which in turn puts the squeeze on the nerve along the

jawline which ends up behind the ear. Thus .. pain.

Methotrexate is usually the first immunosuppressant drug the doctors

will try. I have a page on my web site with information about the

drug.

http://www.itzarion.com/lupusmethotrexate.html

good luck..

Bruce... pardon the changing of fonts here, I'm still trying to change the color/font of INCOMING mail.

Portland stats can sound dreary ok but the rain is so fresh and the green trees and grass fairly sparkle. Most folks run around w/o so much as a coat unless it is really a down pour and we all recognize a 'visitor' if they carry an umbrella. lol.

There may be limited days of sunshine but we have lots of "hours" of sunshine. It comes and goes. Spring is wonderful and summer is downright HOT.

I remember Longview TX being HOT and HUMID. I was glad to get back to the Pacific Northwest.

Have a good day.

Mama-Sher, 69, IPF 3-06, OR.Don't fret about tomorrow, God is already there!

Re: good morning

SherYes, I can believe you actually like the rain. But, I've found peoplewho have lived in Oregon a long time very much like it. It's those whomove there from elsewhere who get depressed when (now this is a Portlandstatistic) the average January has 3 days of sunshine.>> Good morning everyone> not much chatter going on today> was everyone up to late?>> brett bowser> brett@...>

One word about the Levaquin and whatever you have. If you're not

completely well at the end of the ten day cycle, then don't let there

be a lapse. Get to the doctor and get more. Often today and even more

with us, one round of antibiotics is not getting it done and if you

have a few days between then you slip and the second round might not

even get it done.

Learning more each day. I was in ER, getting shot of Levaquin and got

prescription. I wanted to get home and to the forum so I could find out

about any side effects. I'm in a hospital but trust the board more. Oh,

by the way, main side effect is Thrush Mouth, which I didn't have, but

if you do, then you won't be surprised. Normally annoying but nothing

more.

Hi Joe, I think Bruce is doing a wonderful job putting information

here for all of us. BUT please know no one can give you

correct information FOR YOU but your Dr. We KNOW the practical side

of living with this monster, things that make it easier. Individually

we have different Dx and medications to deal with. So one stroke does

not cover it all.

I think everybody here knows I truly love and value Bruce and his

opinions. I worry newbies will mistake some of thinking

Bruce may be a Dr. And as such would follow his advise as opposed to

their Dr.'s. Ya know what I mean??

Boy I know some of y'all will not like this post but please think

We learn so much from each other. I have been so very Blessed by

information on how everyone solves out various problems.

Joe and Joanie, We are so glad to have you here with us. I have a

prayer box and have added your names. God Bless you both with

strength, Peace and wisdom dealing with this monster.

I'm so glad that you two are finding help and support in this group. It has just been a Godsend for me, so much practical, helpful information....support so sincere it's just remarkable, not to mention the friendships that grow.

You two are so welcome here though we all wish we had no reason to be here, right?

Thanks Peggy

I even go to 2 pulmanologists to get 2 opinions constantly. I do realize Dr. Is best but even Dr.'S opinions conflict. One of my Dr.'S said listen to your body constantly and you will constantly learn. I have done so. I went to Dr. Immediately yesterday as I felt the chest tightening, weakening of body, extra coughing, etc. Prior to IPF it took a team of horses to get me to Dr. Sur[rising hoe much I have learned in a few weeks. Mostly I am not 10 feet tall and Bulletproof.

Yea you are right but there is comfort to know others feel the same way, and there is a place to go to get good advice from past experience. I know there is no sub for a good Dr. But if you have walked in the shoes it is easier to relate.

Thanks again,

Joe,

You are soooo right! The support makes it so much easier to get through day by day. I love learning from others experience. I remember being encouraged to get my shower chair, take my o2 with me into the shower, the LL Bean bag that's useful for many to carry the small O2 bottles in... countless little things that make our lives easier.

We've all walked the walk and we "get it"!

I'd go one step further. Many people can give you information including

your doctors. No one can make your life choices for you, not even your

doctor. You must learn as much as possible but ultimately decide what is

best for you.

As far as the Levaquin information, if thats what Peggy is referring to,

I believe my information is such as to say if he isn't completely well,

he needs to talk to his doctor. I certainly wasn't prescribing Levaquin

so it seemed to me to be an obvious inference that if the first round

doesn't get you well, I advise you to contact doctor because a lapse

might take you backward.

I've never professed to be a PA or Doctor or even that knowledgeable.

But, I certainly do know that one round of an antibiotic isn't working

for many people.

Actually even if I was an MD, seeing the actions and behavior of many I

don't know how honorary I'd consider it. Thats a shame. There are many

incredible and dedicated and caring doctors. But its a profession

rapidly suffering from those who aren't. There are honest politicians,

honest lawyers, yes honest used car salesmen but look at the

professions. As someone who is an accountant by training I was

embarrassed to be when we saw the shenanigans of Arthur and

other major firms and the hundreds of thousands of people badly hurt.

I believe many who entered the medical profession did it for the right

reasons, while I know some did it for money. But, somewhere along the

line they became overworked, overstressed, lost any chance at a real

life with their family, and no longer had the strength or resolve to do

things the way they started out to. What makes you worry more is the

reduced applicants for medical school.

Just think about PF for a moment. I heard someone who has tremendous

knowledge recently say he'd trust 100 pulmonologists in the country when

it came to PF. That sounds outrageous. But, how much time has the

average pulmonologist spent in the last three years keeping abreast of

the latest related to the disease. How many pulmonologists actually know

as many people with the disease as the members of this board do?

No, I'm like everyone else here-struggling for knowledge and to live the

best I can with the disease. If I have knowledge on PF at all, the

majority has come from reading this forum and the rest from other

information online. Yes, some things I was told by doctors but more

effectively here. Some things are so complex and some choices we have to

make so difficult. Prednisone and VATS are two prime examples. Others

however are absolute givens, such as the necessity to maintain our

saturation levels and the damage that low blood oxygen can cause. Yet,

even there, when our doctors told us the importance, did they tell us

how? Did they suggest oximeters? Did they explain oxygen choices? Did

they tell you how to work with your oxygen supplier? Did they tell you

all the things you might experience? Did they explain humidification or

cannula choices?

Now I will accept proudly one honor-being a member of this forum. This

collective fight we're in is something I am passionate about. If

suddenly a miracle occured and I found out I was misdiagnosed and didn't

have PF, I'd still be committed to the fight to help those who do, the

need to educate and the need for funding and awareness. And, even though

I would no longer fit the technical requirements to be here, I'd go to

Chicago if I had to in order to plead to be part of this group as long

as I'm alive.

And, even thoughI would no longer fit the technical requirements to be here, I'd go toChicago if I had to in order to plead to be part of this group as longas I'm alive.>> Bruce ,> this is exactly what my pulmo told me , 'take your> antibiotic till the infection goes completely,> I think you should get an hon. I cannot help but feel that God has placed you here on

these board just for the role you are now playing ,

helping and guiding all of us often encouraging

explaining , digging out information and trying to

answer every little query ,

may be you got the disease just to be able to help

others so whole heartedly and patiently, may God bless

you!
