After an xray and CT, it looks like she has a large mass in her neck, chest and into her abdomen that is likely lymphoma, a disease that many of us in the RA community are very concerned about. We see the surgeon and oncologist tomorrow. Hopefully we will get a biopsy asap and she can get started on chemo. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers if you are so inclined. She is single and I'm praying she'll be able to maintain her fertility after treatment. Our parents are traveling in Argentina and I am her only support. I'm selfishly a bit nervous for myself b/c I've had night sweats for a long time that they had chalked up to hormones. I might get a CT to be sure... our uncle had lymphoma 3 years ago. I wonder if there's a connection between the RA genes and this. Guest guest
Hi... I don't know what happens to people when they are faced with scary diagnosis....but I find them truly amazing. I saw my father go through lung cancer treatment, surgery, chemo, radiation, etc. He worked, and after each chemo treatment, he wanted a steak dinner. He never really complained. Somehow there is an inner strength of acceptance, and there is a strength and a need to protect ones family...it also makes them feel better knowing they are doing that. Both my boss and therapist were diagnosed with breast cancer within about a month of each other. They were not only comforting their families, but me as well! I believe that is all positive energy. At least that is what they shared with me. I have not personally had a serious DX such as cancer, but had quite the scare last month that really got me thinking about things. Sounds like she'll do OK...please keep us posted. Hugs to you and your sister. Heidi in Mass.... Merry Christmas! In a message dated 12/18/2008 10:50:39 P.M. She paused for a second, feeling bad leaving me with 2 kids. I said, honey, you have cancer, you get to do *whatever* you want until we get this thing licked. She's so sweet, really the nicest, most innocent person. She seems much younger than 26. I told her she was welcome to stay with us indefinitely, but we understood if she wanted to go home to WA at some point. It sounds like she wants to stay. She said I'm more maternal than our mother. We both had to laugh at that. ________________________________ From: " _sposy@..._ (mailto:sposy@...) Guest guest
Kate, I'm so sorry about what's happened to Bridget. She sounds like a wonderful young woman. Please let us know what the oncologist says. You both have my prayers. Not an MD On Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 9:40 PM, Fair <kalfoley@...> wrote: > Hi everyone. Guest guest
Kate, two questions: 1. Does your sister have an ipod? 2. If I wanted to send her an e-card, does she have her own email or would I be able to send to you to send to her? My mom was diagnosed with cancer at Christmas way back in 96 (different situation, she was stage 4 and it was found after I found her in respiratory arrest at home, didnt help that she had been sick for years). i like to do stuff at Christmas to remember her. Especially hard this year since my MIL (who was wonderful to me) died in a freak accident the Saturday after Thanksgiving this year. It has been a very sad Christmas season, and I am way behind on what I usually do (I just ordered gifts for the kids at 11:30 last night). Please let me know ASAP, you can email my work account at lilleyd@... . Thanks and Merry Christmas, Di > > Hi everyone. My 26 yr old sister Bridget who lives with us was feeling unwell.
